As a gamer with a soft spot for nostalgia, I must say I’m thrilled about Camila Mendes joining the Masters of the Universe live-action movie cast as Teela! Growing up with the ’80s toy line and the iconic animated series, this announcement brings back fond memories.
Actress Camila Mendes, best known for her role in Riverdale, has been chosen to play Teela in the forthcoming live-action film based on Masters of the Universe. She’ll be appearing alongside Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man.
In an upcoming role, the actress will portray Teela, a fierce warrior tasked with shielding the royal family, particularly Prince Adam of Eternia (also recognized as He-Man). This casting decision follows news that Mendes is set to star in the I Know What You Did Last Summer remake alongside Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King.
What is Masters of the Universe about?
Details about the specifics of the upcoming movie remain scarce, but it’s been confirmed that the film will be premiering in theaters on June 5, 2026. This movie, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films, is inspired by the renowned Mattel franchise and focuses on Prince Adam of Eternia, who has developed extraordinary powers.
Growing up as a kid in the ’80s, I was absolutely captivated by the vibrant world of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The toy line, first introduced during that era, quickly became a staple in my childhood, filling my days with endless adventures and imagination. Over the years, I’ve watched the franchise evolve, from the 1987 live-action film to the animated series and various other iterations. Now, as an adult, I eagerly await the upcoming movie adaptation and am thrilled to see how this beloved franchise continues to captivate both old and new generations alike.
In this adaptation, Chris Butler penned the script for the upcoming live-action film that Travis Knight will direct. The production of the movie is overseen by Robbie Brenner, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch.
As a gamer, I might say: While Riverdale’s Veronica Lodge is definitely my most recognized role, I’ve also taken on some exciting projects in the world of film. Movies like The New Romantic, The Perfect Date, Coyote Lake, Palm Springs, Dangerous Lies, Do Revenge, Upgraded, and Música are just a few examples where I’ve had the chance to showcase my skills.
Other stars joining Mendes and Galitzine have yet to be announced.
