As a seasoned Call of Duty fanatic with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the glimpse into the “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” campaign during Gamescom Opening Night Live left me absolutely thrilled! The intricate plot twists and the multitude of choices presented to the player in the Most Wanted level are a testament to the game’s depth and attention to detail.

At Gamescom Opening Night Live, Activision gave us a sneak peek into the “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s ‘Most Wanted’ campaign level.” Now, let me tell you, seven minutes was barely enough to wet my gaming appetite! The dev team did mention, though, that what we saw was just a condensed version of the mission. The full-length mission is set to be a lot more extensive when it’s finally released.

What the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 campaign gameplay shows

The mission for the “Most Wanted” campaign kicks off when a Black Ops squad consisting of characters named “Case”, Troy Marshall, Felix Neumann, and Sevati “Sev” Dumas assemble at Capitol Station in Washington D.C. Their objective is to infiltrate a political fundraiser, acquire retinal data from a senator who possesses the required clearance for accessing a covert CIA facility located beneath the building, and extract Russell Adler, an unpredictable operative, from within the premises.

In this game, the players have numerous opportunities to make decisions. One such decision involves figuring out how to approach the senator for a retinal scan. Here, you’ll be presented with three possible strategies, each briefly outlined:

  • Gabriel Armato, a fixer for one of New York’s crime families, is trying to retrieve sensitive information from the senator. Can he be persuaded to get a retinal scan too?
  • Team up with the senator’s wife, Miriam McKenna, to retrieve a video tape showing his illicit affair. She will then arrange a photo shoot in return.
  • Head of security for Aldrain Energy, Grisham, has slipped the senator a note and there seems to be a connection that can be exploited.

After acquiring the scan, I find myself leading my team towards the enigmatic Black Site. However, fortune seems to turn against us swiftly as a secretive group called Pantheon has breached its security. Now, we’re left with a crucial decision: should we proceed with our infiltration noisily or stealthily.

To keep from revealing any plot twists, the video jumps directly into Interrogation Room 4 where Adler is detained, and it’s clear that escaping won’t be simple. A confrontation with a heavily armed Juggernaut follows before the action shifts to an elevator lobby. Unfortunately, their strategy backfires dramatically. After battling through to the banquet hall, they discover the building is under siege, so they must come up with a new strategy on the fly.

The video ultimately jumps to their departure via dirt bikes through the main gate. Persistently chased by both Pantheon and law enforcement, unfortunately, we’re left uncertain whether the group successfully reaches safety – that outcome seems to be determined by the gamers.
