After many months of anticipation and passionate debates among fans, Netflix has formally declared a live-action Korean adaptation of the popular franchise Solo Leveling. Originally published on KakaoPage, this series has garnered international acclaim, accumulating over 14.3 billion total views across its web novel and webtoon versions. The anime version also boosted its popularity, winning nine major categories at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, such as Anime of the Year, Best Action, and Best Character, fueling high hopes for the upcoming live-action production.
Initially, it was thought that Cha Eun-woo could land the main role, but instead, Byeon Woo-seok has been chosen to play Sung Jin-woo. Known for his popular roles in “20th Century Girl” and “Lovely Runner,” Byeon is highly sought after in Korea. His striking appearance, which resembles a character from a comic book, has earned him the nickname “manhwa-like.” This makes him an intriguing fit for portraying Jin-woo’s transformation from a low-ranked Hunter to humanity’s final hope.
The upcoming series will see collaboration between Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo at the helm, recognized for their projects such as Ashfall, Castaway on the Moon, and Like a Virgin.
