Legendary actors Rajinikanth and Mani Ratnam are anticipated to team up once more, marking a long-awaited reunion since their last collaboration 33 years ago. According to reports from SIIMA, this iconic duo may work together again following the success of their classic film “Thalapathi,” which was released in 1991.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m excitedly waiting for the official confirmation regarding the collaboration between the esteemed filmmakers. The buzz is that this collaboration might take place in December, making it a special occasion as it coincides with the superstar’s 74th birthday. Fascinatingly, Mani Ratnam has joined forces with Kamal Haasan once more, just like their iconic movie Nayakan from 1987. The upcoming project, Thug Life, promises to be a reunion of this dynamic duo that we’ve missed for quite some time!
Previously, the director-actor team collaborated on the film “Thalapathi,” a story inspired by the Hindu epic Mahabharata that focused on the friendship between Karna and Duryodhana. This film depicted Surya, a kind-hearted orphan living in slums, who was widely recognized for his charitable nature.
Following an altercation with a thug, he encounters a formidable gangster named Deva and eventually forms friendships within their group. As their shared leadership by Surya and Deva unfolds, events take a dramatic twist when an upright district administrator enters the picture, who is not only related to Surya but also sets the stage for further complications.
The remainder of the movie centers around Surya’s efforts to rediscover his origins and the evolution of his bond with Deva, all while dealing with various circumstances. In addition to the main star, the film also featured prominent actors like Mammootty and Arvind Swamy, marking his debut role.
Notably, the movie boasted a talented cast including Jaishankar, Amrish Puri, Srividya, Bhanupriya, Shobana, Geetha, among others, who played pivotal roles. Additionally, this film represented their last joint project by Ratnam and Ilaiyaraaja; since then, Ratnam has worked with AR Rahman instead.
Moving forward with Rajinikanth’s career, he will soon appear in the film titled “Vettaiyan.” This movie, directed by TJ Gnanavel, is an action-drama scheduled for release on October 10, 2024. In this film, Rajinikanth portrays a character who is an IPS officer and is known as an expert in handling encounters.
Besides Amitabh Bachchan taking the main stage, the film boasts a talented supporting cast featuring Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan, Rithika Singh, among others.
