BUZZ: Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi gets legal notice of USD 15 million from Breakdown makers for not acquiring its remake rights

As a seasoned movie connoisseur who has witnessed the rise and fall of countless cinematic endeavors, I must say that the impending release of Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi has stirred quite a buzz in the film community. However, the recent allegations of potential legal troubles over remake rights have cast a shadow over this highly anticipated film.

The movie “Vidaamuyarchi,” starring Ajith Kumar, is getting ready to hit the screens on Pongal 2025. Lately, the makers have released a teaser for the film. However, there appears to be a potential issue regarding copyrights as it seems the movie could be embroiled in a legal dispute over its remake rights.

According to the recent findings by Valai Pechu, it seems that the film starring Ajith Kumar did not acquire the legitimate remake rights of the movie Breakdown, which features Kurt Russell. This oversight may have prompted the distributors of Breakdown to instigate a substantial legal claim against the producers of Vidaamuyarchi for approximately USD 15 million (around Rs 127 crores) in damages.

Nevertheless, neither film’s creators have verified this claim, so it remains uncertain if the movie featuring Ajith Kumar has found itself in potential legal issues.

For those who might not know, it’s been noted that Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi is a modern adaptation of the 1997 film Breakdown. In this movie, Kurt Russell plays the main character, with Jonathan Mostow directing and co-writing the action-packed thriller.

In the movie, we follow the story of a couple who are traveling cross-country from Massachusetts to San Diego in a brand-new car. However, mysteriously, their vehicle fails during the trip. A truck driver then stops to assist them and takes them to a nearby restaurant. It’s later revealed that the man they thought was helping them had actually abducted the woman.

For the remainder of the flick, we follow the man’s determined pursuit of locating his missing wife and the abductors, all while racing against time. This thrilling production garnered favorable reviews when initially released and continues to enjoy a strong fanbase, particularly among cult movie enthusiasts.

Furthermore, the latest preview for the movie featuring Ajith Kumar appears to echo scenes and events from the previous film, fueling speculation that it could be a remake. However, the creators have not officially confirmed these assumptions yet.

In the future, Ajith Kumar will star in a new movie titled Good Bad Ugly, which is scheduled for release in 2025. This film, helmed by renowned director Adhik Ravichandran, who gained fame with Mark Antony, promises to be an action-comedy. Originally planned for release during the Pongal festival this year, its premiere has been postponed.
