Butterfly Release Date Set for Prime Video’s Daniel Dae Kim Spy Show

Amazon Studios’ MGM division has revealed that the spy thriller titled “Butterfly,” starring Daniel Dae Kim (known for Lost and Hawaii Five-O), will be released on a specified date. The series is adapted from Arash Amel’s 2015 graphic novel bearing the same name.

This show is all about spies, but with a focus on characters and their relationships. It takes place in the dangerous world of international espionage. The main character, David Jung, was once a secret agent in the U.S., but now lives in South Korea. His peaceful life is disrupted when events from his past catch up to him, forcing him to run from Rebecca, a ruthless, emotionally detached assassin sent to kill him, and Caddis, the shadowy organization she works for.

When is the Butterfly release date?

The butterfly series is set to launch on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025, airing all six episodes simultaneously. Starring alongside Kim are renowned South Korean actors such as Kim Tae-hee (known for Stairway to Heaven and Hi Bye Mama!), Park Hae-soo (from Squid Game and Money Heist: Korea), Sung Dong-il (Reply 1988), Lee Il-hwa (Reply 1997), and Kim Ji-hoon (Money Heist: Korea). The cast also includes Piper Perabo, Reina Hardesty, Sean Dulake, Charles Parnell, and child actor Nayoon Kim.

This series was jointly developed and overseen by Ken Woodruff and Steph Cha, with Woodruff taking on the role of showrunner. Additionally, it’s supervised by Kim, John Cheng, Adam Yoelin, Stephen Christy, and Ross Richie. Kitao Sakurai is responsible for directing the initial two episodes. This project falls under Kim’s first-look agreement with Amazon MGM Studios through 3AD.
