As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a bit of nostalgia mixed with frustration when it comes to the latest PS5 shenanigans. Remember those good old days when we didn’t have ads interrupting our gaming experience? Well, it seems history might be repeating itself, albeit unintentionally this time.
Initially, PS5 users found themselves taken aback upon seeing advertisements for the very games they owned, instead of the usual game artwork. However, Sony has since clarified that this was merely an error or glitch in the system.
Ads, ads, ads
On Monday, Sony rolled out an update for the PS5 which left many PS5 users feeling annoyed. Normally, when you hover your cursor over a game, you get to view its cover artwork and even hear its background music.
After the patch, we instead saw ads for other games from the same publisher and old sales.
It seems that the latest PS5 user interface update, which promised the ability to eliminate all ads on the dashboard, turned out to be misleading. Unfortunately, now every game displayed on your home screen has a background ad, and there appears to be no option to get rid of them, ironically enough.

Sony plans to make the user interface more customizable for users in the U.S. with this update. This will allow gamers to modify their widget layout by adding, resizing, or removing them, and also use changing backgrounds.
I’ve just experienced the live update on my PlayStation 5 dashboard, and it’s terrific! Now, I can rearrange and resize widgets to display more information. For instance, the storage widget used to be a single row, but now it has been expanded. Additionally, there’s an upload/download feature included. Furthermore, you can eliminate all promotional widgets. In short, PS5 has made some significant improvements!

Sony has acknowledged that the problem stemmed from a technical glitch, not deliberate action, and they’ve successfully resolved it.
The technical issue affecting the Official News function on the PlayStation 5 console has now been fixed. However, the method in which game news is presented on the PS5 remains unchanged.

Let’s hope this bug doesn’t give the developer any ideas for the future!
