Sarah Michelle Gellar will once again embody Buffy Summers in Hulu’s revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As of now, Gellar is the sole actor from the original series who’ll be part of the reboot. If given the choice, Gellar would love to resurrect several characters from the past.
During an interview with Vanity Fair Italia, Gellar hinted at the tone of the remake and expressed her desire to blend established characters with fresh faces.
Gellar stated that it’s intended to be less heavy than previous seasons of the original show. He aims to strike a balance between old and newly introduced characters. Ideally, he’d like to resurrect all deceased characters, but there needs to be room for fresh narratives as well.
Sarah Michelle Gellar didn’t disclose which dead characters she hopes will appear in the Buffy reboot. Yet, she made clear her desire to include contemporary issues in the reboot’s narrative.
One interesting point about Buffy is that it’s been a show that blends genres from the start, as Sarah Gellar pointed out. Our aim is to update the themes of the series, focusing on how it feels to be an outsider in a world heavily influenced by social media. We’re keen to delve into the temporal and spatial boundaries impacting society nowadays.
Skeleton Crew, has been chosen to play the main character, a fresh new slayer.
Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are set to pen the pilot and assume executive production roles for this upcoming series. Meanwhile, acclaimed director Chloé Zhao has joined forces as both a director and executive producer. Other executive producers include Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, Kaz Kuzui, and the legendary Dolly Parton. The revamped show is being produced by 20th Television and Searchlight Television, and will be broadcast on Hulu.
