The film titled “Bromance,” featuring Mathew Thomas and Arjun Ashokan as the main characters, made its debut in cinemas on Valentine’s Day, 2025. After its initial run in theaters, viewers can now stream it online on SonyLIV.
As a die-hard fan who simply can’t wait for their next cinematic fix, let me share my thoughts on the upcoming adventure comedy flick. Here’s my take from TopMob: If you’re considering watching it in the comfort of your own home, this review is just for you!
The Plot
The narrative in Bromance revolves around the character of Binto, a young individual dealing with Intermittent Explosive Disorder. His brother, Shinto, is frequently admired by others for his almost flawless nature. Despite their differences, the brothers maintain a strong bond. However, their relationship takes a sinister turn when Shinto vanishes without any trace or clue to his whereabouts.
In a dead-end situation, Shinto’s companion Shabeer summons Binto to Kochi, igniting a thrilling narrative involving individuals such as Aishwarya, Hariharasudhan, Courier Babu, and others who eventually become part of their journey.
In the movie, it’s revealed that Binto discovers his brother possesses qualities beyond initial impressions, and the story continues by exploring if they manage to locate him.
The Good
The movie “Bromance” lives up to its name by exploring the heartwarming tale of a young sibling seeking his older brother, whom he deeply admires and sees as a hero. Initially, the film presents itself as a light-hearted stoner comedy, but it swiftly changes direction, leading us on an exciting voyage.
As each new character is introduced in the movie, it heightens both the confusion and excitement, leaving us eagerly anticipating the unfolding events. The well-defined portrayals of every individual ensure a clear understanding for the audience, aligning harmoniously with the straightforward storyline.
The film “Bromance” offers a straightforward tale that’s intriguing in its structure, rather than detracting from the overall movie experience. In fact, it leaves us yearning for a deeper exploration of this captivating universe. Despite the humor and originality of the comedic sequences, the movie thrives on the exceptional acting prowess displayed by its talented cast.
Although the text had some inconsistencies, it remained cohesive and didn’t veer off topic. The clever incorporation of minor themes and symbols throughout the movie, later woven into the plotline, was an impressive move from both a writing and directing standpoint.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to highlight that from a technical standpoint, this film boasts some fantastic tracks and background scores. These are the brilliant creations of Govind Vasantha, who has earned fame with Thaikudam Bridge. His musical talent isn’t confined to touching romantic compositions like ’96; he demonstrates his versatility by excelling in fun projects as well. Despite his undeniable skills, it seems the music world still underestimates him.
Additionally, this movie boasts both a larger ensemble and striking visuals courtesy of Akhil George, along with top-notch editing by Chaman Chakko, resulting in an absolutely captivating viewing experience.
The Bad
Although Bromance maintained an entertaining vibe and engaging storytelling, it sometimes struggled with consistency, shifting between moments. The well-structured script occasionally weakened, causing certain plotlines to feel artificially woven together.
Ignoring the potential issues with the screenplay, this low-cost movie successfully provided entertainment within a short duration instead of becoming excessively complex or elaborate like many commercially produced films.
The Performances
The ensemble cast in Bromance delivered exceptional acting performances. Matthew Thomas skillfully portrayed a character struggling with IED, while Arjun Ashokan and Mahima Nambiar convincingly embodied their roles that were true to their respective characters.
Instead, it was Sangeeth Prathap who truly shone in the movie, delivering a lively portrayal of an ethical hacker. His outstanding comedic delivery is what really leaves an impression and makes the film stand out.
