Regé-Jean Page, who was nominated for an Emmy (for Bridgerton), has officially agreed to take on the main role in the upcoming movie adaptation of “The Count of Monte Cristo.” He will also produce this project through his production company A Mighty Stranger. This new film version is based on Alexandre Dumas’s 1846 novel with the same title.
Recently, he appeared as a key player in the Focus Features’ spy thriller film titled Black Bag, where he shared the screen with Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender. At present, he is set to take the lead role in an upcoming series inspired by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, being developed by Amazon MGM Studios since 2022.

Who is involved in the new The Count of Monte Cristo movie?
In this new take on The Count of Monte Cristo, Patrick Ness will pen the script. Production is under the supervision of Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer for Department M, Emily Brown for A Mighty Stranger, and Youtchi von Lintel for YouRoc. This is Page’s debut as a feature film producer following his acclaimed acting role in Bridgerton Season 1.
The initial book narrates the journey of a man who plots revenge after being deceived and imprisoned in isolation for a prolonged period. Over time, this story has been transformed into both film and television multiple times, with traces as far back as 1908. Among these adaptations are Paul Schrader’s 1999 movie adaptation titled Forever Mine, featuring Joseph Fiennes and Ray Liotta, and Kevin Reynolds’ 2002 film starring Jim Caviezel, Guy Pierce, the late Helen McCrory, and a young Henry Cavill in one of his earlier roles.
