During a recent chat, actor Jonathan Bailey shared insights about love and dating. Renowned for playing Anthony Bridgerton in the popular Netflix show, he made it clear that his on-screen character’s romantic adventures haven’t impacted his personal approach to relationships.
On the Chicken Shop Date show to publicize Jurassic World: Dominion, Bailey was queried by host Amelia Dimoldenberg if his role in Bridgerton enhanced his romantic abilities. His answer was straightforward, chuckling he replied, “No!” He further elaborated, “Wasn’t it a fantasy? Real-life romance is rooted and authentic.
During the same conversation, Bailey playfully daydreamed about what role Dimoldenberg might play if he were part of the Bridgerton series. He jokingly suggested, “I can picture you in Bridgerton. [You’d be] quite strict and possibly a potential spinster.
Bailey has discussed in the past how the genre of romance influenced his perspective. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he shared how his understanding of romance stories has changed over time, particularly following his involvement in a series like Bridgerton. He stated, “Growing up, I associated romance as a genre. However, it’s only been with shows like Bridgerton that the genre has gained the recognition and global exposure it deserves.
Contemplating his initial thoughts about romantic literature, Bailey realized, “I thought romance novels were all about lounging on the beach with a glass of rosé, but now I see that sexuality, intimacy, and personal identity are the real essence.
At present, Jonathan Bailey is shining on the large movie screens with his role in Jurassic World Dominion. Later in the year, audiences can look forward to seeing him portray Fiyero in Wicked: The Musical, which is scheduled to premiere this fall.
