As a dedicated gamer and history enthusiast, I’m thrilled to hear that Brendan Fraser has been cast as Dwight D. Eisenhower in the upcoming World War II movie “Pressure.” The immersive world of gaming has allowed me to explore various historical periods, including the events leading up to D-Day. So, I find this news particularly exciting.
Brendan Fraser has been cast as Dwight D. Eisenhower in a new World War II movie called Pressure.
Anthony Maras, the filmmaker behind last year’s “Hotel Mumbai,” is at the helm of a new project titled “Pressure.” Set in the time frame prior to D-Day, this upcoming movie will feature Andrew Scott from “All of Us Are Strangers” portraying the character James Stagg.
According to Deadline’s report, Fraser has been added to the Pressure film’s cast as the character of Eisenhower. This historical figure faced the crucial decision of whether to launch an invasion of Normandy in the end.
What is Pressure about?
In the three days prior to D-Day, almost everything was prepared for the largest seaborne invasion in history, except for one crucial factor – the British weather. The responsibility of predicting this weather fell on Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer, James Stagg. His forecast would determine the success or failure of the operation, causing him to face off against the entire Allied command. If the conditions were unfavorable, the invasion could be ruined, and any delay might alert the Germans. With just his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby as his confidant, Eisenhower, the Supreme Allied Commander, had to make the final call. The outcome would impact the progression of the war and potentially millions of lives.
The 2014 stage play “Pressure” was penned by David Haig, who collaborated on the screenplay with Maras. Filming for the resulting movie is projected to commence in the UK this September, with ongoing casting processes.
More recently, Fraser was awarded the Best Actor Oscar at the 2023 Academy Awards for his role in “The Whale” (2022). Subsequently, he took on a smaller part in Martin Scorsese’s film “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Upcoming projects include acting alongside Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage in Max Barbakow’s “Brothers,” scheduled for release in October. Furthermore, Fraser is set to feature in “Rental Family” by Hikari, but a release date has yet to be announced.
A release date for Pressure has not yet been announced.
