As a die-hard Metal Gear Solid fan, I can’t wait to get my hands on Konami’s latest remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. This isn’t just an update; it’s a meticulous recreation of the PS2 classic, right down to the original animations and those familiar gated loading screens. But don’t worry, this vintage charm is given a modern touch with a stunning Unreal Engine 5 makeover.
Interestingly enough, Konami has clandestinely developed a unique multiplayer mode for the remake of Metal Gear Solid, which deviates significantly from anything seen in the series before. Known as Fox Hunt, this isn’t just an updated version of Metal Gear Online, but rather an entirely new concept.
Fox Hunt comes to Metal Gear Solid Delta
At the current Konami Press Start conference, it was revealed that Fox Hunt is an entirely fresh multiplayer experience which can be enjoyed within Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Directed by Yu Sahara, this “entirely original” mode offers a new perspective on PvP MGS for both novice and seasoned gamers.
In an unexpected addition to the new game, Sahara revealed that the latest multiplayer mode mirrors the world of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, yet provides a unique, distinct gaming experience.
Konami detailed that the fresh gameplay approach is designed to transition Metal Gear Solid into a contemporary multiplayer landscape, indicating that it required considerable thought to deliver an innovative twist for the franchise. The innovative mode can be likened to a high-tech version of hide and seek, with exclusive camouflage techniques specific to Metal Gear being employed.
Fundamentally, it seems like the fresh multiplayer feature is essentially hiding-themed gameplay similar to Prop Hunt, where participants adopt sophisticated camouflage, transforming themselves into convincing piles of stones, plants, or other terrain elements based on their map location.
Further information about the upcoming multiplayer aspect in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be shared as its launch approaches, which is set for August 28, 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. Unfortunately, there’s no news regarding a Nintendo Switch 2 port at this time.
