Brad Pitt reveals how he almost got fired from his job as an extra on No Man’s Land

In an attempt to circumvent some rules, highly regarded actor Brad Pitt pursued obtaining a Screen Actors Guild membership, an action that nearly cost him his role on a film production. Pitt discussed this memorable incident during the most recent episode of the Armchair Expert podcast.

During their conversation with Dax Shepard and co-host Monica Padman, Brad Pitt revealed that he once worked as an extra in the 1987 movie “No Man’s Land,” starring Charlie Sheen. In a restaurant scene, Pitt strayed from protocol by improvising and saying something unscripted while playing a waiter.

In this scenario, Brad Pitt explained that the scene was set in a restaurant where he played a waiter, serving and pouring champagne, without any spoken lines, alongside Charlie Sheen and D.B. Sweeney.

The actor from The Bullet Train movie explained, “They taught me how to do it, but I opted to improvise instead.” In reality, Brad Pitt, the beloved Hollywood figure, decided not to follow directions and went with his own lines. Pitt also shared the reason behind uttering a specific line. During that period, the lead actor of Troy found it necessary to obtain a Screen Actors Guild card. This would officially make him part of the union for professionals within the entertainment industry.

However, for the SAG card to be valid, it required speaking roles. Consequently, Brad Pitt had to deliver lines in at least one scene to secure the card. As a result, he improvised and included his own dialogue in the restaurant scene.

Pitt confessed, “As I reached the final actress, she appeared to be less prominent in the hierarchy? Perhaps. Meanwhile, the scene was unfolding, I offered her champagne, and said, ‘Is there anything else you’d like?’ At that moment, it was ‘Cut! Cut! Cut!’

Following his daring effort, the initial assistant director warned he would be removed from the film. He reminisced, “The first assistant director stormed over, ‘Do that again and you’re finished here!!!’ It was an embarrassing moment for the rest of the evening.” Despite the misstep, the incident remained a memorable experience for the actor, who summarized it as, “I gave it my best shot!
