As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the box office results for the recent Thanksgiving weekend have left me utterly astounded. The performance of Moana 2 is nothing short of spectacular, shattering records previously held by Frozen II and leaving powerhouse productions like Wicked and Gladiator II in its wake.
Over the course of the five-day Thanksgiving weekend, Moana 2 outperformed both Wicked and Gladiator II at the box office.
Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Moana 2 grossed an impressive $221 million in five days, with its official opening on Wednesday. This surpasses the previous record holder, Frozen II, which made $130.3 million during its three-day opening, also under Disney Animation.
In their second week of release, both movies – Wicked and Gladiator II – continued to perform well. Specifically, Wicked brought in an extra $117.5 million during the five-day weekend, while Gladiator II earned $44 million over the same period.
Over the next weekend, there aren’t many films making their debut that I think will make a significant impact at the box office. Movies like A24’s Y2K, starring Frank Grillo in Werewolves, and Amy Adams’ Nightbitch (which is only showing in select theaters) are unlikely to draw massive crowds. However, it seems that Moana 2, Wicked, and Gladiator II will continue their reign, dominating the box office.
