Borderlands Movie: How Did Lilith Become Firehawk? Powers Explained

As a long-time fan of the Borderlands franchise, I must say I was initially taken aback by the changes made to Lilith’s character for the movie adaptation. However, after delving into the backstory and her powers as Firehawk, I find myself pleasantly surprised.

In the upcoming Borderlands film, fans are eagerly anticipating the modifications made to the character Lilith, particularly her transformation into Pandora’s Firehawk deity and her role as the vault key. This article addresses these changes and delves into Lilith’s abilities in the movie.

How did Lilith become Firehawk and the key to the vault in Borderlands?

In the surprising turn of events in Borderlands, it was revealed that Lilith was actually the genuine offspring of Eridia. She wasn’t transformed into the Vault key or an embodiment of the Firehawk deity; rather, she was destined for these roles since her birth, possessing Eridian blood as a natural part of her identity.

Up until act three, Borderlands led audiences to believe that Tiny Tina was the prophesized figure. Atlas, however, had cloned her using Eridian blood, under the assumption she held the key to opening the vault’s power. Yet, the film unexpectedly misled its audience by pulling off a switcheroo in the climax.

Lilith believed her mother had sent her far off and passed away during the pursuit of a vault and its keys. In reality, her mother recognized Lilith’s unique talents and dispatched her with Tannis as protection for their secret from Atlas and other Vault hunters. This arrangement allowed Lilith to hone her combat skills in survival. Yet, when she eventually came back to Pandora, her dormant abilities gradually awakened.

Scattered throughout the movie were hints revealing her real persona. Mad Moxxi subtly pointed these out, while Lilith unwittingly sought the objects crucial to opening the vault. Her arrival on Pandora started a revival of the planet, causing flowers to blossom and granting her abilities like teleportation (Phasewalk).

In the end, Lilith successfully unlocked the vault, performing a brave act to safeguard her companions. This heroic deed made her deserving of bearing her emblem as a guardian, enabling her to assume her authentic Firehawk shape. It was her preordained role to protect Pandora, and she accomplished her destiny by wholeheartedly assuming this protective duty in the final stages.

What are Lilith’s powers and abilities as Firehawk in Borderlands?

In the games, Lilith is a character belonging to the Siren class, equipped with numerous abilities. However, in the movie, it’s not until the end that she fully unlocks these powers. Transforming into the Firehawk, she harnesses even greater strength compared to her video game counterpart.

As a seasoned bounty hunter, she was adept in close-combat and skilled with various weapons. However, her Eridian heritage granted her a unique talent – teleportation, reminiscent of the “Phasewalking” feature seen in the game. This is how it’s portrayed in our movie.

In the game, her crucial phase-walk ability renders her undetectable by adversaries, yet visible to allies. However, in the film, it enables her to not only teleport but also transport her companions. Moreover, other Firehawk abilities include telekinesis, enhanced physical strength, stamina, and durability. She obtains the power to fire energy beams and fly using energized fiery wings, which can also form a protective shield as a forcefield, guarding not just herself but others too.
