Borderlands’ Eli Roth Talks Reshoots: ‘I Directed This, What Happens?’

2024’s “Borderlands” saw numerous retakes, a fact that director Eli Roth has recently disclosed, explaining that he was unavailable for these additional shoots entirely.

What did Eli Roth say about Borderlands’ reshoots?

In a recent interview on The Town podcast with Matthew Belloni, Roth openly discussed the challenges in producing the Borderlands movie. However, he also mentioned that he maintains friendly relationships with the studios and individuals connected to the film.

Roth stated, “I get along with everyone at that place, but whenever we need to discuss past events, it’s likely that someone will appear to be in a negative light. Normally, it’s just the one in charge of directing.

Roth explained that he couldn’t take part in the additional filming because of his commitments during Thanksgiving. As a result, Roth was kept in the same position of uncertainty regarding the film as the audience, which the director pointed out.

Roth mentioned experiencing something new while watching one of his Thanksgiving-timed movies, as it was the first time he had directed a film and sat down to watch it, unsure of the outcome. He hadn’t previously faced this situation in his career.

The movie Borderlands features Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Haley Bennett, Édgar Ramírez, Bobby Lee, Olivier Richters, Janina Gavankar, Gina Gershon, Cheyenne Jackson, Charles Babalola, Benjamin Byron Davis, Steven Boyer, Ryann Redmond, and Penn Jillette as its main cast members.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I had the pleasure of watching a film that was masterfully directed by Roth, based on a screenplay penned by Craig Mazin. Interestingly, Mazin decided to stay anonymous for this project and will be recognized under an alias in the credits. The star-studded cast includes Haley Bennett, Janina Gavankar, Gina Gershon, Cheyenne Jackson, Charles Babalola, Benjamin Byron Davis, Steven Boyer, Ryann Redmond, and Bobby Lee.

Borderlands is being developed by Avi Arad and Ari Arad from Arad Productions, as well as Erik Feig from Picturestart. Randy Pitchford, founder of Gearbox, and Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, will serve as executive producers. Lionsgate’s James Myers and Aaron Edmonds, along with Emmy Yu from Arad Productions and Lucy Kitada and Royce Reeves-Darby from Picturestart, are overseeing the project.
