Booster Gold HBO Show Gets Promising Update After DCU’s Strong Start

The latest news on the forthcoming Booster Gold series from DC Studios offers an exciting glimpse into the advancements being made in the DC Universe production, following more than two years since its initial announcement by James Gunn.

What is the latest Booster Gold HBO show update?

Based on reports by Deadline, the creator of Our Flag Means Death, David Jenkins, has been chosen to write the initial episode for the much-anticipated Booster Gold series. If HBO Max greenlights the project and gives it an official series order, Jenkins will assume the role of showrunner.

The upcoming HBO Max series is set to belong to DCU’s “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” phase. As of now, no start date for production or cast members have been announced. Previously, there were whispers about Kumail Nanjiani potentially taking on the main role, but nothing has been confirmed yet. In a past interview, Gunn mentioned that the delay in Booster Gold’s show is due to his unwillingness to proceed with production unless he feels the scripts meet his desired standards.

Right from the start, I’ve emphasized that at DC, we won’t start filming scripts or episodes until they’re fully prepared. In other words, I won’t begin shooting anything unless I’m completely satisfied with it,” Gunn explained.

Michael Jon Carter, or Booster Gold, made his first appearance in comics in 1986’s Booster Gold #1, created by Dan Jurgens. Originally depicted as a disreputable football star from the future year 2442, he pilfers time-travel technology to return to the present day, where he feigns superhero status using rudimentary tech from his era for personal glory and wealth. However, he eventually transforms into a genuine hero when he becomes a member of the Justice League. Prior to his live-action debut in the DC Universe, Booster Gold was previously portrayed by Eric Martsolf on Smallville and Donald Faison in Legends of Tomorrow.
