Bollywood legend Manoj Kumar passes away at 87; Khushbu Sundar and Adivi Sesh pay tribute

Today, April 4, esteemed Bollywood actor Manoj Kumar passed away in Mumbai. His final breath was taken at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, following a long struggle with illness in the early hours. Upon hearing of his death, celebrities from the South expressed their sympathies and grief over his passing.

Khushbu Sundar conveyed heartfelt grief over the passing of Manoj Kumar. She reminisced about his achievements, specifically his Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and emphasized that he will forever be remembered as “Mr. Bharat” due to his dedication to spotlighting issues such as food, clothing, farming, and maintaining integrity and tradition. She added that his absence would be greatly felt and expressed her hope for his tranquil repose.

She noted on X that he would forever be known as ‘Mr. Bharat’, a constant reminder to us of the essentials: food (roti), clothing (kapada), and farmers (kisaan). His character was one of honor and love for our nation.

Adivi Sesh, too, voiced his sorrow upon the demise of Bollywood legend Manoj Kumar, adding that he was the embodiment of the very essence of “India” (Bharat).

Manoj Kumar, often referred to as Bharat Kumar, is a renowned Indian figure in the film industry. He donned multiple hats, acting, directing, and writing scripts, but he is most celebrated for creating patriotic movies. His exceptional work in cinematography was recognized with the National Film Award and Padma Shri in 1992. In 2015, his dedication to the art of filmmaking was further honored by receiving India’s highest cinema award, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Originally from Abbottabad, British India (now Pakistan), Harikrishan Giri Goswami relocated to Delhi at the age of ten following Partition. He furthered his education at Hindu College and eventually embarked on a career in film. Motivated by Dilip Kumar’s role in Shabnam, he decided to adopt the name Manoj Kumar.
