As a long-time fan of the Farrelly Brothers and their brand of humor that seamlessly blends slapstick, heartwarmth, and a dash of absurdity, I am absolutely thrilled about Bobby Farrely’s latest project, “Driver’s Ed.” Having grown up on classics like “Dumb and Dumber” and “There’s Something About Mary,” the thought of a new road trip comedy under his direction is nothing short of exhilarating.
Bob Farrelly, one of the directors for Dumb and Dumber, has agreed to take charge of a forthcoming teen road trip comedy titled Driver’s Ed. This film is produced by Jonas Pate, a co-creator of Outer Banks, who collaborated with Jennifer Pate in refining Thomas Moffett’s initial screenplay for the project.
As a gamer, here’s my take: Following 2023’s Champions with Woody Harrelson and the hilarious Christmas comedy Dear Santa featuring Jack Black, I, Farrelly, am now diving into my latest solo directorial venture. Additionally, I’m excited to be working on Amazon MGM Studios’ family-friendly vacation comedy, Sporkinfeesten, which I’ll helm as well.
What is Driver’s Ed about?
The story revolves around a group of teenagers who decide to take their driving school’s vehicle for an adventure, aiming to assist a graduating high school student in locating his university freshman girlfriend and winning her affection back. [Source: Deadline]
The creation of “Driver’s Ed” is overseen by Jonas Pate, Jennifer Pate, and David Stone, with Stuart Ford and Aghi Koh from AGC Studio taking on executive producer roles. Additionally, Peter Farrelly will not only direct but also serve as an executive producer, working alongside Scott Lambert who has previously worked on “The Killer’s Game” and “Tár”. Production for this teen comedy is scheduled to start in early 2025 in North Carolina, while the casting process is still ongoing.
Upon receiving this delightfully captivating script from the Pates and David Stone, we recognized its ability to win over crowds of all ages. With Bobby, who has an impressive commercial history, now attached as director, the movie ‘Driver’s Ed’ is moving in a thrilling direction towards filming early next year.” (Ford stated this in a press release.)
