As a fan who grew up with the timeless character Bob the Builder, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about the upcoming animated film featuring Anthony Ramos in the lead role! Having been a part of the Puerto Rican community myself, I am particularly intrigued by the storyline that takes our beloved builder to the beautiful island.
Amazon MGM Studios has recently secured the rights for the upcoming animated film featuring Bob the Builder, with Anthony Ramos as the voice talent.
It became public knowledge in January 2024 that a live-action Bob the Builder movie is under development. The talented Ramos will lend his voice to our beloved character, and production duties are entrusted to Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions.
Per Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios has now acquired the movie.
As reported by Deadline, while not all transactions are finalized yet for the acquisition, it’s rumored that Amazon MGM Studios has emerged victorious in securing the project, fending off competition from Netflix, DreamWorks Animation, and other contenders.
What else do we know about the Bob the Builder movie?
As an eager viewer, I’m still unsure whether this upcoming movie will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video right off the bat, or if I’ll have the chance to catch it in a traditional theater setting first.
Bob Ramos, also known as Roberto, embarks on a trip to Puerto Rico for an extensive construction project. Along the way, he encounters challenges specific to the island and delves into the deeper aspects of construction. This adventure highlights the lively and vibrant cultures of Caribbean Latin nations and their residents, creating a celebratory narrative.
Deadline also notes that Lopez is not believed to be in talks for a voiceover role in the film.
Working together with Jennifer Lopez on the film are Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, and the team from ShadowMachine (comprising Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico). ShadowMachine is known for their work as a production company on Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, which was released in 2022.
Kevin McKeon, Ivan Sanchez, and Arturo Thur De Koós are managing the project on behalf of Mattel, while Natalie Haack Flores handles it for Nuyorican.
Originating from the mind of Keith Chapman, “Bob the Builder” was a popular animated children’s television series produced in Britain, broadcast from 1999 to 2011. Spanning 18 seasons and more than 250 episodes, this show centered around the escapades of Bob and his personified construction vehicles and tools.
A release date for the animated Bob the Builder movie has not yet been announced.
