As a gamer who has seen more than his fair share of TV shows come and go, it’s always bittersweet when a beloved series like Blue Bloods reaches its final episode. With 14 seasons under its belt, it’s safe to say that this cop drama has become a staple in many living rooms every Friday night since 2011.
We know when Blue Bloods airs its final episode and it’s going to be a big celebration for fans!
It’s unfortunate that the final episode of Blue Bloods will air this year. One can only wish it could have gone on for at least another 167 episodes to reach a total of 300. Yet, fourteen seasons is an impressive run for any television show, serving as a testament to how far Blue Bloods has progressed since its debut in 2011.
In the last season, the family police drama has continued to deliver its typical blend of stories, featuring the Reagans grappling with numerous obstacles. The plot also includes Jamie and Eddie contemplating starting a family and suggests that the storyline concludes with a significant event or ceremony.
The final episode of the show is yet undecided, but CBS has officially confirmed that it will be broadcast on Friday, December 13, at 10/9c. Prior to this, CBS will air a one-hour special titled “Blue Bloods: Celebrating a Family Legacy,” which offers a retrospective look at the show’s history and legacy, as well as glimpses into the series production process.
This one-hour ET news special, celebrating 293 episodes of BLUE BLOODS, includes new exclusive interviews with the stars and recurring guest stars who share favorite memories and behind-the-scenes moments from the past 14 years. Hosted by ET’s Nischelle Turner and featuring archival interviews from the ET vault, the special serves as a love letter to the loyal fans who had dinner with the Reagan family every Friday night and upheld BLUE BLOODS as one of the top series on television. Included in the show is a rare look inside the famous family dinner scene, where viewers learn family dinner secrets straight from the Reagans’ table. The special reveals new details about the first time the cast had family dinner during the pilot when they were strangers, and how that transformed the series into the global phenomenon it is today. Also, fans hear first-hand from the cast about what it is like filming on the streets of New York City and get a sneak peek at the emotional finale prior to the series send-off on Friday, Dec. 13
It sounds like a fun event even if fans are curious as to what the finale can be.
What could the Blue Bloods finale be about?
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve never seen Blue Bloods ending in high-octane cliffhangers or jaw-dropping surprises each season. Instead, the show has always been about the Reagans and their day-to-day struggles, along with the usual police work. So, it seems unlikely that we’ll witness some epic finale spectacle.
In a conversation with TVLine, Bridget Moynahan suggested that the finale will offer fulfillment, yet her comments also underscored the desire some fans might have for more episodes.
I think that fans will feel somewhat satisfied… but then you’re going to want more. There are these nuggets where people are going to be like, ‘Yes!!!’ And then the show’s over. It’s going to be bittersweet in some ways.
There’s a strong desire among the creators and actors of “Blue Bloods” for the show to carry on. Despite its current success, there’s speculation about another network potentially picking it up. However, this seems unlikely, but the series appears set to conclude with an ending that provides closure while still leaving some room open for potential future revival.
Fans can mark Friday the 13th as an unfortunate day to bid farewell to “Blue Bloods”, but they can take comfort in the fact that it concludes with panache!
Blue Bloods Season 14 airs Fridays at 10/9c on CBS.
