The eagerly awaited Blue Beetle TV series from DC Studios has recently received an intriguing update by DC Universe actor Xolo Maridueña. This update arrives more than a year after it was initially disclosed that the studio had begun creating an animated series based on Blue Beetle, serving as a continuation of the 2023 live-action film.
The animated series titled “The Blue Beetle” is currently being created by both Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios. Miguel Puga is assigned as both showrunner and director for this production. Additionally, Cristian Martinez has been enlisted as a writer, while Angel Manuel Soto will also hold the position of executive producer.

In a recent chat with ScreenRant, Maridueña shared his enthusiasm for reprising his role as Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle in an animated format, expressing his eagerness to delve into narratives that are challenging or impossible to portray on live sets.
The universe has been unveiled, much like Pandora’s Box. To put it simply, it’s an exciting time! I’m a big fan of animation, and I enjoy delving deeper into these characters. Having previously voiced Blue Beetle, I feel familiar with the character and his voice. It’s thrilling to see him come alive in this animated format, and I can’t wait to discover the stories we can tell that wouldn’t be possible in live-action,” Maridueña expressed.
Among my preferred narratives, I adore “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “Young Justice,” and the works produced by Studio Ghibli. I find it intriguing to observe the wealth of inspiration that the creators draw upon, and I’m eager to discover how the Blue Beetle will contribute to this rich tapestry.
Moreover, Maridueña shared his experiences about carrying on the role of the youthful DC character within the DC Universe.
He expressed that the character has had a profound impact on him for the past two years since its release. He’s delighted to see the positive changes it has brought about in this expansive universe. Moreover, he’s thrilled that this character was the pioneer and is now embraced by numerous familiar, amazing faces from various backgrounds.
