Actor Xolo Mariduena is coming back as the character Blue Beetle in a new animated show. Star of Cobra Kai, Mariduena expressed his desire to resume the role in James Gunn’s revamped DCU around 2026. In the year 2023, Mariduena took on the identity of Jaime Reyes as Blue Beetle before the franchise was thoroughly rebooted by Gunn.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that despite the significant shifts, the 23-year-old actor has managed to hold onto his role under Gunn’s guidance. Excitingly, Xolo Mariduena will once again lend his voice to our favorite character, Blue Beetle, in an upcoming animated series. Xolo Maridueña says Blue Beetle’s animated show is targeted for a 2026 release
In a recent chat, Xolo Maridueña shared that the group behind the Blue Beetle animated show is putting in a lot of hard work to get it finished.
During a conversation with Russ Milheim from The Direct at the Saturn Awards, Mariduena hinted that the Blue Beetle series might debut in 2026. He shared his excitement, saying, “I’m eager to return. We’re putting a lot of effort into this animated project, hoping to finalize it this year so we can share it with everyone next year.
Xolo Mariduena expressed continued trust in James Gunn’s choices regarding his role in the DCU. When asked about his future plans, he said, “Well, I don’t want to interrupt a chef while they’re cooking. But when they’ve finished this three-course meal, I’ll be ready.” This statement echoes Gunn’s earlier comments, where he confirmed that Blue Beetle would play an important role in the DCU moving forward. Mariduena added, “I see no reason to doubt his words.
Although Mariduena keeps providing positive updates, the creators of the Blue Beetle animated series haven’t announced a specific launch date yet.
