Blake Lively and Taylor Swift’s friendship halted, claims report

The close bond between Taylor Swift and Blake Lively appears to have taken a temporary break, as per reports, due to the ongoing legal issues that involve Justin Baldoni, who is both a cast member and director of Lively’s film “It Ends With Us.

According to a source familiar with the situation, Taylor Swift and her friend have temporarily stopped interacting. Taylor is distancing herself from the current situation. Another source mentioned that they’re giving each other some breathing room, but their friendship remains intact.

In a move connected to his ongoing lawsuit against Lively, Baldoni’s legal team issued a subpoena to Swift on May 8, 2025. This action reportedly broke the delicate truce between the two celebrities, according to a source. As mentioned in Baldoni’s January 2025 complaint, it is alleged that Lively referred to Swift as one of her “dragons” in a text conversation. Subsequently, Swift’s representative confirmed that the singer had not watched It Ends With Us until weeks after its public premiere.

In a letter dated May 14th, Bryan Freedman, Baldoni’s lawyer, asserted (on behalf of an anonymous source) that Lively had pressured Swift to issue a public statement expressing support. According to Freedman, Lively’s attorney hinted that Swift’s private messages might be disclosed if she failed to oblige. However, Mike Gottlieb, Lively’s attorney, refuted these allegations, labeling them as “cowardly sourced” and “unrelated to reality.

In response to the subpoena, Swift has kept quiet publicly about the issue. However, a source shared with PEOPLE that Swift was deeply hurt by the situation. The judge removed Freedman’s letter and affidavit from the case record, issuing a warning for any future misbehavior, suggesting potential penalties for such actions.

In December 2024, Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni alleging harassment and retaliation. Baldoni counter-sued for defamation with a claim of $400 million. Furthermore, it’s been reported that Lively’s friendship with Gigi Hadid has grown strained. A source stated, “Gigi is now closer to Taylor [Swift] and has clearly chosen her side.” The trial is set for March 2026.
