Blade Update: MCU Movie Could Finally Be Moving Forward

The MCU Blade movie may finally be moving forward.

In 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel’s Kevin Feige revealed that Mahershala Ali would star as Blade in an upcoming MCU film. Although Ali had a brief, unrecognized voice role in last year’s Eternals, the production of a solo Blade movie has been challenging due to multiple setbacks. The project keeps encountering obstacles along the way.

Initially scheduled for release in November 2025, the Blade movie was later taken off Marvel Studios’ schedule in 2024. Since then, clear updates about the movie have been scarce, which has left some fans speculating that the film might not be produced at all.

What is the latest Blade update?

David S. Goyer penned the script for the initial Blade trilogy featuring Wesley Snipes, encompassing Blade (1998), Blade II (2002), and Blade: Trinity (2004). Interestingly, in addition to writing the screenplay, Goyer also directed the final installment.

Earlier, Goyer mentioned that due to the numerous production challenges the MCU film was facing, a lot of his friends, supporters, and online community members have inquired whether he would consider rejoining the series, if only to assist Marvel in steering the project in the right direction.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve got some exciting news to share! According to Variety, I (the fan) have heard that Goyer himself has made contact with Marvel. But here’s the catch: they’ve shared with him that, for now, they don’t require his assistance.

Goyer stated that he had his representative reach out to Marvel with the question, ‘Is there anything you require assistance with?’ To which Marvel responded, ‘We appreciate you, but we believe we’ve solved it on our own now and are doing well.’ Since then, no contact has been made from them.

Although Goyer, not someone directly involved with the project, is the source of this news, it’s uncertain how far along Blade’s development truly is. Nevertheless, the idea that Marvel has potentially found a solution to an ongoing challenge is somewhat encouraging. Moreover, Goyer expressed interest in participating in the film if asked, despite his lack of knowledge about its behind-the-scenes progression.

Blade does not have a release date at this time.
