Blade MCU Composer Talks Delays, Doubts It Will Happen

It’s come to light that Flying Lotus was initially approached to compose the music for Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Blade film.

Back in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel first revealed that Mahershala Ali would headline a new Blade film. However, due to various production hold-ups, the movie is yet to materialize. As of now, there’s no scheduled release date for this film.

What did Flying Lotus say about the MCU Blade movie?

Regarding X, the rapper and record producer known as Flying Lotus announced that he initially agreed to compose music for Blade. Unfortunately, he is no longer connected to the project and questions whether it may be revived in the future.

The original post says: “I guess we’re quite distant from it being a possibility now, but yes, I was supposed to compose music for the new BLADE film before it didn’t work out. It might pick up again, but I’m not hopeful. Would have been enjoyable, though.”

“Although it looks unlikely now, I had initially agreed to write music for the new BLADE movie. However, things didn’t pan out. Maybe there’s a chance it’ll happen again, but I don’t think so. It would have been a cool project.

Apart from his music ventures, Flying Lotus has delved into film directing as well. In 2022, he directed the “Ozzy’s Dungeon” segment of V/H/S/99. Subsequently, in 2025, he directed Eiza González and Aaron Paul in a movie titled Ash, where he also composed the film’s soundtrack.

It’s currently uncertain if the Marvel Studios Blade movie will indeed come to life. Last month, Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider reported that Kevin Feige has expressed his intention to continue with the project. Recently, there are whispers that Chad Stahelski could potentially direct Blade, although this is just a rumor and hasn’t been officially verified yet.

Furthermore, Delroy Lindo, who is no longer involved with the production, shared with Entertainment Weekly that the film originally appeared “very intriguing conceptually” and offered “great potential for the character development,” but “unfortunately, something caused it to derail.
