Black Widow’s Scarlett Johansson Comments on Natasha MCU Return Theories

Scarlett Johansson shares her thoughts on the ongoing speculations regarding a possible comeback of Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

In various Marvel Studios productions, Johansson portrayed Natasha Romanoff, with the latest being the 2021 release “Black Widow”. Contrary to her tragic end in “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), this film was actually set prior to those events.

Ever since that point, there’s been much discussion among fans on the possibility of Black Widow making a comeback in some form, given that reviving deceased characters is not entirely uncharted territory for Marvel.

In contrast to the wishes of fans, Johansson is stating that, regrettably, the character Natasha is no longer alive and will not make a comeback.

What did Scarlett Johansson say about Black Widow’s potential MCU return?

InStyle was informed by Johansson that Natasha has passed away. ‘Natasha is no longer alive,’ he said. ‘She’s gone for good. People can’t seem to accept it, they keep hoping she might return. But I believe the universe’s equilibrium depends on her. We need to let her go now. She saved the world; it’s time for her to have her moment as a hero.

It’s interesting to mention that there have been whispers and theories about a possible Blonde Phantom MCU film featuring Johansson, but so far, no definitive announcements have been made regarding this project. However, it’s worth noting that she is listed as an executive producer on Marvel’s Thunderbolts*, which is set to release on May 2, 2025.

Meanwhile, Johansson is set to appear in the upcoming blockbuster film “Jurassic World Rebirth,” which hits U.S. theaters on July 2, 2025, distributed by Universal Pictures. The movie, helmed by director Gareth Edwards, also features Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and others in its star-studded cast.

Beyond her roles in Black Widow and Avengers: Endgame, Scarlett Johansson has also been featured in Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films like Iron Man 2 from 2010, The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), and Avengers: Infinity War (2018). You can catch all these movies on Disney+.
