As a lifestyle expert with a rich background in cinema and a keen eye for detail, I must say that I found Black, starring Jiiva and Priya Bhavani Shankar, to be an intriguing amalgamation of sci-fi and horror elements. Having watched the original American movie Coherence back in 2013, I can appreciate the unique twist KG Balasubramani has brought to the table with this Tamil adaptation.

On October 11, 2024, the Tamil science fiction horror film “Black,” starring Jiiva and Priya Bhavani Shankar, premiered in cinemas. This film, directed by KG Balasubramani, is a remake of the American movie “Coherence” with Emily Foxler and Maury Sterling as the main characters. In simpler terms, the Tamil horror-sci-fi flick Black featuring Jiiva and Priya Bhavani Shankar was released on October 11, 2024. It’s a remake of the American film Coherence starring Emily Foxler and Maury Sterling.

The Tamil version of the movie has sparked various views among viewers, with several describing it as an enjoyable film. One user on X (previously Twitter) commented, “I found it gripping and well-acted by Jiiva. Acting was clean, but I’m unsure if everyone will appreciate it or not. However, I enjoyed it as a fan of Jiiva.

Simultaneously, another user referred to it as “Admirable and Ambitious”. Director KG Balasubramani took the fundamental idea from the original work, wrote his own screenplay with modifications for clarity, and presented it as a thought-provoking thriller. Jiiva and Priya Bhavani Shankar seamlessly fit into the narrative and portrayed characters that were equally puzzled throughout the storyline.

In 2013, James Ward Byrkit made his directorial debut with the movie Coherence, which is a captivating blend of surrealism and science fiction thriller. The story unfolds around eight friends who gather for a dinner party coinciding with a comet flyby in their vicinity.

During the comet’s flyby, an unexpected power failure ensues, accompanied by mysterious events that form the basis for a gripping narrative. The film boasts talented actors such as Nicholas Brendon, Lorene Scafaria, Hugo Armstrong, Elizabeth Gracen, and several others in pivotal roles.

The Indian version of the movie is reportedly altering the script slightly to fit its Tamil setting. Apart from Jiiva and Priya Bhavani Shankar, this film boasts the talents of Vivek Prasanna, Yog Japee, Sha Ra, and Swayam Siddha as well.

The movie debuted during Ayudha Pooja and has garnered a mix of positive and negative feedback from critics. As for Jiiva, his latest project was Yatra 2 where he portrayed former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
