Biggest Failure Of 2024 So Far? Overwatch-Lookalike Concord Reportedly Only Sold 25,000 Copies

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen the rise and fall of countless titles, some shining brightly at launch only to fade away into obscurity, while others managed to carve their niche amidst stiff competition. Concord, Sony’s ambitious hero-shooter, seems destined for the former category, given its dismal performance thus far.

It’s not uncommon for significant games to struggle at their initial release, especially when they debut alongside more established titles. This phenomenon was demonstrated yet again with the launch of Concord.

It appears that Sony’s new hero-shooter game, Concord, has only been out for around ten days, but so far there doesn’t seem to be much excitement or interest surrounding it.

Low Sales And Even Lower Active Player Numbers

On August 23rd, Concord had a rather modest start on Steam, according to IGN’s report, with approximately 697 players. Unfortunately, the current player count has significantly dropped, currently standing at only 46 players. At its highest point within the last 24 hours, there were 119 players engaged in the game.

Liam Deane, who is the principal analyst at Omdia said:

The Steam numbers are so bad that even without the exact data on the PS5 side we can be pretty certain that the game is doing very badly.

As a gamer, it seems like the sales figures for the PS5 aren’t any better than I expected. I recently caught wind of this from an interview IGN had with analyst Matt Piscatella from Circana on August 26th. He referenced their Player Engagement Tracker to shed light on the situation.

Concord ranked 147th in US PS5 daily active players across all titles, with fewer than 0.2% of Monday’s active PS5 players playing the game

According to analyst Simon Carless’ assessment, approximately 10,000 copies of the game Concord have been sold on Steam, while about 15,000 units were sold on PlayStation.

So, not a great start for Sony’s hero-shooter, maybe they could see an increase in the future.

What do you think? Have you heard of Concord?
