Best Kim So-Hyun K-Dramas & Korean Movies

As a dedicated fan of Kim So-Hyun, I have been in awe of her remarkable acting skills and versatility since she first graced our screens as a child actor. Her latest project, Serendipity’s Embrace on tvN, has me both excited and nostalgic.

In the upcoming tvN series, titled “Serendipity’s Embrace,” South Korean actress Kim So-Hyun is set to make an appearance. Previously, this accomplished star left audiences in awe with her exceptional acting abilities in various productions. Some of Kim So-Hyun’s notable K-dramas and films in the Korean entertainment industry are “Love Alarm,” “The Last Princess,” and “My Lovely Liar.”

In addition to Goblin (known as Guardian: The Lonely and Great God), While You Were Sleeping, and The Tale of Nokdu, she has appeared in well-liked series. Upcoming for her is a romantic comedy titled Serendipity’s Embrace, where she collaborates with Chae Jong-Hyeop. In this production, her character Lee Hong-Ju harbored strong feelings for Kang Hu-Yeong during high school. However, upon expressing her affection before graduation, she was left devastated and since then has struggled with self-doubt in romantic relationships.

After several years have elapsed, Hong-Ju unexpectedly encounters her past love. A whirlwind of feelings surges through their minds and hearts. Will Hong-Ju be given another opportunity? The much-anticipated drama “Serendipity’s Embrace” is set to debut on July 22, 2024, on tvN. In the meantime, here are some notable performances by Kim So-Hyun in Korean dramas and films.

Love Alarm

Love Alarm is a 2019 South Korean drama series available on Netflix, featuring So-Hyun, Jung Ga-Ram, and Song Kang in leading roles. In simple terms, the app used in this story notifies people when someone in their proximity has a crush on them. Jo-Jo, played by So-Hyun, is an orphan residing with her aunt and isn’t privy to smartphones or the Love Alarm app. Unbeknownst to her, Hye-Yeong harbors feelings for her. Therefore, Jo-Jo navigates young love while dealing with personal challenges in a unique and app-assisted world, where the complex triangle between her, Hye-Yeong, and Sun-Oh unfolds.

Simultaneously, Sun-Oh is well-liked among students, while Hye-Yeong holds the position of his closest friend. However, their bond is put to the test when Sun-Oh attempts to gauge Hye-Yeong’s feelings for Jo-Jo. This results in an unwelcome kiss from Sun-Oh, ultimately damaging their friendship. The series, comprised of two seasons, can be streamed on Netflix.

My Lovely Liar

I’m deeply captivated by “My Lovely Liar,” a 2023 drama that showcases So-Hyun as Mok Sol-Hee and Hwang Min-Hyun as Kim Do-Ha. In this intriguing romance series, Sol-Hee is a young woman who possesses an extraordinary ability to hear lies. Regardless of how skillfully people try to conceal their falsehoods, she can’t help but detect them. This unfortunate gift has left her disillusioned with trust and convinced that everyone around her is untrustworthy. However, the arrival of a new neighbor, Do-Ha, played by Min-Hyun, challenges Sol-Hee’s cynical perspective on humanity.

A renowned music producer, known for his popularity in the industry, finds himself unwillingly involved in a murder investigation. To evade suspicion, he decides to live discreetly by moving into an apartment next to Sol-Hee. However, Sol-Hee’s extraordinary abilities fail to detect any deception in Do-Ha. She trusts him implicitly due to his honesty. But what transpires when Sol-Hee uncovers Do-Ha’s hidden past? Catch the unfolding story on Viki, a streaming platform for K-drama fans.

Unforgettable

In 2016, a captivating Korean film titled “Unforgettable” was released. This heartwarming production features the talented acting of Kim So-Hyun and Doh Kyung-Soo in pivotal roles. The narrative revolves around Hyung-Joon, an accomplished radio DJ, who is unexpectedly reminded of his first love through a letter she sent after a 23-year absence. The movie takes us back to the cherished summer memories of five friends and their unforgettable experiences together.

As a gamer, I can tell you this: I’m Soo-Ok, the injured gamer here, and Hyung-Joon, or Beom-Sil as he’s called in the film, becomes my source of comfort. He’s got it bad for me, and our moments together are nothing short of heart-pounding. But will he get a happy ending? That’s a question only the movie can answer.

The Last Princess

The final princess of the Joseon Dynasty departs for Japan, which is under Japanese rule at the time. Her childhood companion swears to bring her back to Korea and help her navigate the journey. Son Ye-Jin portrays Princess Deok-Hye, while So-Hyun takes on the role of young Deok-Hye. Park Hae-Il assumes the character of Jang Han, her longtime friend.

In addition to the K-dramas and films previously listed, So-Hyun has featured in numerous other productions. Her acting abilities have been on display for quite some time, dating back to her days as a child actor. Upcoming, So-Hyun will make an appearance on tvN’s series “Serendipity’s Embrace.” The program is set to premiere on Mondays and Tuesdays and can be streamed on Viki.
