As a seasoned Marvel Snap gamer with years of card-slapping battles under my belt, I must say Ghost has certainly shaken things up in the game. I remember the days when new cards felt like a distant dream due to their high collection level requirements and low drop rates. But with the introduction of Ghost and the Token Shop, there’s a glimmer of hope for us non-elite players.
In the Marvel Snap game, Ghost, a card from Series 5, has faced criticism within the community. Consequently, more recent cards aren’t often used because of the high collection level required to play them (486 and above). Additionally, its drop rate is quite low at only .2%, which isn’t favorable.
It’s great news that with The Token Shop, you won’t solely depend on Random Number Generation (RNG) for obtaining new cards. Over time, these cards are often transferred to various series. To illustrate, Zabu from the last season was weakened and shifted to Series 4.
It seems there’s an unusual situation where most members of the community feel less enthusiastic about receiving fresh cards that can’t be acquired through the season pass.
More recently, the introduction of Ghost has caused many players who were initially critical to now embrace the concept, as Ghost is essentially a game-changer.
Instead of playing the priority game mechanic where players reveal their cards first, she simplifies the process by letting you show your cards second. The priority in this case is decided based on the combined power of all cards a player has on the game field.
Whoever has the highest goes first.
Now, you have the freedom to build decks with a reactive strategy without worrying about opponents outsmarting your approach.
The ghost is self-sufficient, meaning it can function independently without needing assistance. Once you deploy it onto the playing field, it will take care of itself throughout the remainder of the game.
No longer do you have to make sure you have priority to get the correct buffs.
Now, with this new game state defined, let’s look into some decks where Ghost can possibly shine.
Hazmat Ghost
Initially, let go of Ghost, and on the fifth round, release Sera. After completing these actions, our main goal should ideally be to execute a particular combination using this deck setup.
That combo consists of Luke Cage, Hazmat and Wong on the last turn at the same location.
As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that this move ensures we can activate Luke Cage’s skill to bolster our cards, thus keeping their power intact. Following that, Hazmat will release a gas cloud over the entire battlefield, causing opponents to lose one unit of power each.
Afterward, Wong will set off and have Hazmat employ her ability once more, reducing the entire game board by 2.
Valkyrie Ghost
The Valkyrie Ghost deck offers a swift response compared to most, largely due to its ability to consistently start the game second. This advantage provides us with numerous exciting and offensive options, such as deploying Valkyrie and Thanos as our primary objectives.
Valkyrie is an exceptional choice to play when your opponent has established a location, as she empowers all cards at that location with a power level of 3.
Thanos constantly poses a significant danger during gameplay, as he gains power from the Infinity Stones scattered throughout the match.
Apart from these giants, there’s also Spider-Man who ensures that the adversary cannot occupy his spot during the next turn.
A storm that causes a place to flood or lose electricity could become a common occurrence, potentially shaping the future strategy in control decks, leading to utter devastation.
Ghost Control
Since we’ve found a strategy to make our control deck more assertive, let’s shift our attention towards potent cards rather than primarily focusing on low-powered ones, as was previously the case in the metagame.
If we manage to bring out Ghost and Zabu onto the battlefield, it significantly expands our strategic options, enabling us to execute powerful counterattacks. With the addition of Shang-Chi and Enchantress to our team, we can effectively neutralize any winning conditions our opponent may have set up.
In the game, Shang-Chi eliminates any cards with a power level of 9 or higher.
As a fan, when I’m up against a Sacrifice Aggro deck, I find it incredibly helpful to leverage Polaris. By moving any cost-heavy cards to her location, you effectively neutralize any bonuses granted by a card like Carnage, making it easier to manage the game and tilt the odds in my favor.
Ghost Kazoo
The Ghost Kazoo configuration facilitates a methodical, strategic approach to playing a zoo-themed deck, even in the face of the current meta that tends to counter such decks.
In an ideal scenario, the gameplay is similar to a typical zoo deck, where our aim is to gradually ramp up and play Ka-Zar by turn 4. Initially, Ghost or Sunspot (if drawn) should be the opening cards. Subsequently, we should safeguard these cards using Armor. Following this, we introduce Bishop who will amplify in power for every card added subsequently.
First, Ka-Zar increases the power of all our 1-cost cards to 1. Next, we add Blue Marvel, which gives an extra +1 power to all cards. In a typical strategy reminiscent of a zoo, turn 6 is dedicated to playing cards from our hand that we haven’t played yet.
It’s best to strategically position our strongest cards with protective shielding (Armor), ensuring they survive an attack from Killmonger, who is currently a common threat in the game against decks that focus on small creatures (zoo decks). By executing this plan effectively, you should find yourself in a favorable position where your opponent finds it challenging to match up with you.
