Title character Khazan, one of the toughest soulslikes you may encounter, might leave you feeling quite exasperated if it’s your initial foray into this genre. If you find yourself frequently succumbing to death in the early stages of Khazan, the game itself will suggest you explore its Easy Mode option. Employing Easy Mode does come with some advantages, but there are also significant disadvantages to consider, and once chosen, it’s a decision that cannot be undone. Therefore, I would advise using Easy Mode only if you are entirely unfamiliar with the soulslikes experience.
In the game “The First Berserker: Khazan“, numerous bosses present a tough challenge. The so-called “Normal Mode” offers one of the toughest gaming experiences I’ve encountered in a soulslike game. Yet, with persistent practice against each new boss, I eventually adjusted to the difficulty level, despite occasional thoughts of opting for Easy Mode due to frustration. Fortunately, I persisted and didn’t make that switch – even Easy Mode proves to be incredibly difficult. Moreover, choosing Easy Mode means missing out on the game’s “true ending”, which is a substantial disadvantage.
How Easy Mode Works In First Berserker: Khazan
Khazan’s Stats Are Buffed, But Bosses Are Just As Tough
From my perspective, the name “Easy Mode” for the gameplay option seems quite deceptive because the aspects that truly make the game difficult remain largely unchanged. In Easy Mode, the bosses retain the same move sets, and they present the same overall challenge as they would in Normal Mode, except that Khazan takes less damage and deals more. This implies that you’ll still find it challenging to defeat beginning bosses like Yetuga even when playing in Easy Mode, as the most difficult part of facing most bosses is often the unusual timing and rhythm of their attacks.
In Easy Mode, Khazan gains some advantages, however, there are trade-offs to be aware of. Firstly, once you choose Easy Mode, you can’t switch back to Normal. Secondly, opting for Easy Mode prevents you from experiencing the game’s true ending in First Berserker: Khazan. After having played both modes, I can confirm that there is a clear difference, but I wouldn’t call it easy. In Easy Mode, Khazan’s abilities and stats are adjusted as follows:
- Overall damage against enemies is increased
- Overall damage received is decreased
- All elemental resistances are increased
- Stamina recharge rate is increased
- Stamina damage from Brink Guards is increased
- Weight limit is increased
In Easy Mode, Khazan becomes tougher and more formidable, but that doesn’t mean you can effortlessly defeat each boss. The essence of the gameplay remains crucial, requiring you to navigate Brink Guards, perform Brink Dodges, manage Reflections, and build combos for maximum damage and exhausting opponents.
Is Easy Mode Worth It In Khazan?
Easy Mode Isn’t Really That Much Easier
In summary, opting for Easy Mode may not be beneficial if you aim to experience the true conclusion of the game or wish to acquire all trophies/achievements. Despite being labeled as easier, you’ll likely find yourself facing challenges with bosses, thanks to their challenging move sets such as Trokka’s relentless umbrella assaults and Shactuka’s erratic strikes from Khazan’s boss fight. Easy Mode would only be suggested for beginners who are finding it difficult to overcome the initial boss battle.
For newcomers to the soulslike genre, learning through trial and error is a crucial aspect. You’ll ultimately reap the rewards from conquering the challenges. Usually, the difficulty of each boss will guide you in mastering new skills or creating new combos, thereby enhancing your comprehension of your character build, weapon capabilities, and the rhythm of the game. However, you’ll pick up these lessons more subtly in Easy Mode, but the difference is only slightly perceptible by the end of “The First Berserker: Khazan“.
