As a long-time fan of Billy Crystal‘s work, I am genuinely excited about his latest venture, “Before”. Having grown up watching him in some of my favorite comedies like “City Slickers” and “When Harry Met Sally”, it’s intriguing to see him step into the realm of psychological thrillers.
In the upcoming psychological thriller series, I can’t wait to see myself, as a fan, getting a glimpse of Billy Crystal attempting to assist a peculiar, unsettling child, based on what’s shown in the trailer for “Before.
Beginning this coming Friday, October 25th, the entire ten-part series will debut simultaneously worldwide on Apple TV+. Each subsequent episode will then become available weekly, every Friday, up until December 20th.

What happens in the Before trailer?
The introductory clip showcases the primary figures in the narrative. Characterized by Crystal, Eli is a child psychologist who’s recently bereaved his wife Lynn (portrayed by Judith Light). In his journey, he meets a distressed youth named Noah (played by Jacobi Jupe). Yet, things don’t unfold as Eli had anticipated in his efforts to help.
Initially, the scene sets focus on Eli, a man still grappling with the aftermath of Lynn’s passing. In the trailer titled “Before,” there’s a growing sense of unease as Eli starts experiencing imagined conversations with his deceased spouse. Subsequently, Eli encounters Noah, a boy who’s had trouble adjusting at a foster home. Interestingly, Noah persistently sketches a farmhouse, capturing Eli’s attention.
It’s later discovered that Noah also experiences hallucinations and was expelled from school. Eli starts believing there must be a reason they crossed paths. Yet, the strength of their bond appears to be challenged when Noah accuses Eli: “You know very well what you did!” Still, Eli persists in his belief that he can rescue Noah.
In addition to Crystal, Light, and Jupe, the cast features Rosie Perez, Maria Dizzia, and Ava Lalezarzadeh. This series originates from Paramount Television Studios, with Sarah Thorp as its creator. Thorp holds multiple roles in the series, including that of showrunner, writer, and executive producer. She shares these positions with Crystal, Academy Award winner Eric Roth, pilot director Adam Bernstein, and Jet Wilkinson who serves as the producing director.
Previously, Apple TV+ has been releasing a series of gripping, limited series dramas starring high-profile celebrities. Among these are Rashida Jones’s Sunny, Tom Holland’s The Crowded Room, and Natalie Portman’s Lady in the Lake.
