As a passionate gamer diving into another dimension, I can’t help but share my excitement over the recent updates about “Beetlejuice 3.” Tim Burton, the mastermind behind the director’s chair, and Jenna Ortega, our beloved lead actress, have finally spoken up about the buzz surrounding this sequel. The theatrical release of the 2024 edition has left critics and fans alike in awe, earning it a Certified Fresh rating of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on an impressive 367 reviews. Can’t wait to see what spooky adventures Beetlejuice will lead us on next!
What did Tim Burton say about Beetlejuice 3?
It was mentioned last April that a new Beetlejuice movie was likely in development by producer Michael De Luca as part of Warner Bros.’ horror comedy series. Yet, it appears that directors Tim Burton and Catherine Hardwicke were not aware of these potential plans regarding the Beetlejuice franchise by the studio.
In a recent conversation with THR, Burton and Ortega both expressed doubts about reprising their roles for a Beetlejuice 3 film. Despite finding the sequel project enjoyable, director Burton confessed that he’s not particularly drawn to the idea of making a third installment.
He mentioned that another film took 35 years to produce, by which time he would be 105. Acknowledging the long odds, he added, “I truly loved working on this project, yet Warner Bros. initially showed little interest. We followed the same improvisational approach as the first one. It was a joy to reunite with some of the original cast and welcome Jenna into the mix. However, it feels like attempting to recreate the Wednesday dance scene. I cherish the characters, but I’m not entirely convinced about another installment.
If queried about his emotions should the studio opt for a different director on the project, Burton openly admitted that he’d still feel let down, despite not holding the ownership rights to the Beetlejuice series.
Burton expressed, “I have a strong sense of ownership over every project I work on, even when I don’t legally possess the characters. When they staged the Beetlejuice Broadway musical, it made me angry.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m finding myself in an unusual position – Astrid is a character I’ve loved playing, but it seems Ortega isn’t ready to step back into those shoes without Burton by her side. He’s not just directing, but also collaborating with her on the hit Netflix series Wednesday. So, for now, we wait and see what this means for our favorite characters in the game of life.
She stated, “I absolutely wouldn’t consider joining that project. In fact, I believe anyone making such a move would be making a mistake. Without Tim being part of it, what’s the point? There’s no other movie quite like Beetlejuice. Comparing anything else to it seems somewhat disrespectful.
