Tim Burton on what his next movie will be after Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Burton recently traveled to Mexico City for the debut of a labyrinth modeled after his past works. In an interview with Milenio, he discussed his plans following “Beetlejuice 2,” set to premiere in 2024. This new project is a sequel to the 1988 film “Beetlejuice.” The original movie was both critically and financially successful, currently boasting a 75% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes after receiving 367 reviews.

Director Tim Burton disclosed that he’s been developing a new animated venture. He expressed his enthusiasm by saying, “I should have a script finished shortly, then we’ll move forward with it. It’s a project I’m really looking forward to.

This renowned director has a history of creating several other stop-motion animated films, such as Corpse Bride from 2005 and Frankenweenie in 2012. He also collaborated on the production of The Nightmare Before Christmas, a film adapted from one of his poems, released in 1993. In each case, the movies were produced using stop-motion technique.

While in Mexico, Burton shared insights about how graveyards influence his artistic journey. He expressed that these places offer a profound sense of tranquility and stimulate creativity within him. He further explained, “I used to visit these sites as a place for contemplation.” He then emphasized that the time he invested there significantly impacted his creative pursuits.

As I write this piece, it’s uncertain what his next project will be, given that the only known future project at present is “Wednesday” Season 2. Tim Burton has directed the first four episodes of the Netflix series and is set to helm an additional four episodes in its second season, which premieres in two equal parts on August 6, 2025, followed by September 3, 2025.
