As a Beatles enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in their music and history, I can hardly contain my excitement about Sam Mendes’ upcoming movies! The casting announcements are like a dream come true for me, with each actor bringing their own unique talent to the iconic roles they’ll be playing.
In the Beatles films directed by Sam Mendes, it has been reported that George Harrison‘s role may be filled by Joseph Quinn for the upcoming movie series based on the legendary band.
The Deadline article mentions that Quinn will portray Harrison in one of the four films directed by Mendes, which are inspired by a band. This information follows yesterday’s reveal from director Ridley Scott about Paul Mescal, who acted alongside Quinn in Gladiator II, taking on the role of Paul McCartney in upcoming projects.
The report aligns with Jeff Sneider’s reports from The InSneider, suggesting that Quinn was being considered for the films. Moreover, Sneider noted that Mescal, Barry Keoghan (who Ringo Starr believed was cast for the role), Harris Dickinson were all potential candidates for various roles. This is also reflected in Deadline’s report about Quinn.
If the accounts are accurate, it appears that Mescal would play Paul McCartney, Quinn would be cast as George Harrison, Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Harry Dickinson as John Lennon in Mendes’ upcoming quadrilogy of films.
What do we know about Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies?
In February 2024, it was revealed that director Sam Mendes is teaming up with Neal Street Productions for the production of four distinct films focusing on The Beatles. Mendes himself will take charge as director, with each film concentrating on a particular band member’s perspective.
At the time of the announcement, Mendes expressed his pride in narrating the tale of the most outstanding rock band ever, while also expressing his eagerness to question the traditional understanding of a cinema outing.
Director Mendes, famous for films such as American Beauty (1999), Skyfall (2012), and 1917 (2019), is teaming up with Pippa Harris and Julie Pastor to produce upcoming movies. Jeff Jones will act as executive producer. Filming is tentatively scheduled for 2025 in the United Kingdom, with all four films set for release in 2027.
