Beat Saber drops PSVR and PSVR 2 support as devs focus on PC and Quest for future updates

The iconic VR game Beat Saber, known as the best-selling virtual reality title, has spurred sales of numerous VR headsets throughout its lifespan. Currently under Meta’s Oculus Studios, this rhythm game powerhouse is available across most VR platforms; however, the developers have recently decided to discontinue support for PlayStation VR (PSVR) and the upcoming PSVR 2.

To clarify for our cherished fans, Beat Studios has announced that they will no longer be providing support specifically for PlayStation 4 and its gamers. The game can still be purchased, including all existing DLC expansions, but it’s important to note that no fresh updates or developments will be rolled out for the game going forward.

Beat Saber drops PSVR support

In simple terms, Beat Studios has announced that they won’t provide any more updates or additional music packs for Beat Saber on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 after June 18, 2025. Instead, they are focusing on planning significant advancements for the game’s future development.

Furthermore, the multiplayer feature in the rhythm game will stop working from January 21, 2026. After this date, you won’t be able to play it in multiplayer mode on either the PlayStation VR or PlayStation VR 2 versions of the musical game.

As a devoted enthusiast, I can’t help but express my undying enthusiasm for virtual reality (VR). The future is brimming with potential, and I can hardly contain my excitement about what we are going to deliver to our fellow Beat Saber fans who have been an integral part of this incredible 7-year journey with us.

For the game available on PS4 and PS5, the concluding Downloadable Content (DLC) features Lady Gaga’s track titled “Abracadabra.” This song was unveiled as a surprise launch named “Shock Drop” on June 5, 2025. As confirmed by the studio, this is the last content released for Beat Saber on the PlayStation platform.

Players using platforms other than PlayStation, such as Oculus Quest, PC, or PICO, won’t notice any difference since those platforms continue to receive game updates. Unfortunately, PlayStation users may find themselves at a disadvantage as they won’t receive further support for the platform.

The success of PSVR 2 has been less than expected within the VR industry, despite its impressive hardware. Unlike the widespread adoption of the original PSVR on PS4, this momentum hasn’t carried over to the PS5 era. However, there are still forthcoming releases planned for the platform. It would potentially boost sales if PlayStation introduced more exclusive titles once again.
