As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for both RPGs and sports games, I can hardly contain my excitement for Beastieball! Having dabbled in the world of Pokemon-style monster-catching games since their inception, I’ve always yearned for something unique that would take this beloved genre to new heights. The addition of a pseudo-volleyball twist is not only refreshing but also promises an engaging and dynamic gameplay experience.
After grinding on the training grounds for months, I’m pumped that Beastieball is finally gearing up for the preseason! The newest game from Wishes Unlimited, creators of Chicory: A Colorful Tale and Wandersong, has just announced its early access date. So get ready to hit the court with the beasties in early November!
For those not familiar, Beastieball is similar to a Pokemon-style role-playing game where you capture monsters, but instead of battling, the main objective is to play a game resembling volleyball using these creatures. In this 2v2 competition, each Beastie uses its unique abilities and weaknesses to outmaneuver the opposing team. This can include sending the ball to places they can’t get or defeating them by taking out their team members with various moves.
At Day of the Devs: SGF Edition 2023, Shacknews got an early sneak peek at Beastieball shortly after its reveal. The game impressed with its innovative take on the Pokemon concept, as it featured Beastie teammates forming special bonds in diverse ways. By the end of the demo, excitement to encounter the Sports King soared even higher.
Beastieball will enter Steam Early Access on Tuesday, November 12.
