BEAMS PLUS Enlists dip for Garment Dyed Nylon Capsule

In their recent joint project, BEAMS PLUS and pioneering Japanese fashion brand dip have unveiled a fresh collection emphasizing garment-dyed nylon fabrics, showcasing dip’s distinctive effects from their signature process. The seven-piece assortment creatively reinterprets daily staples such as a military coat, a suit jacket, a t-shirt, cargo pants, and more, all crafted using the resilient synthetic material.

In a post on Instagram, BEAMS PLUS explains the key ideas behind their collaboration, emphasizing the significance of “unique identities” and “appreciating the worth of timeless masterpieces while updating materials and designs.” The collection showcases historical inspiration, particularly from 20th-century military clothing, as shown in items like berets, zip-up liner jackets, tactical pants, and utility vests. Additionally, the collection introduces an unusual oversized tee and a jacket that reimagines BEAMS’ traditional suit jackets using crinkled nylon fabric.

Referred to as “The Dark Collection,” the clothing pieces are displayed in muted shades, keeping the unique fabric texture prominent. The garment-dyed nylon appears in rich blacks, earthy khaki tones, and soft grays, all falling within a minimalist spectrum of neutral colors. Across the collection, antique brass hardware such as snap buttons and zippers accentuate the weathered appearance of the textured materials.

For approximately 25 years, BEAMS has had a close partnership with dip, led by founder Shigehiko Taguchi. Following the launch of BEAMS PLUS, Taguchi became involved in 2000 as a product consultant for the brand, serving until 2006. Concurrently, his label dip was established in the same year as BEAMS PLUS, focusing primarily on “functional design” and “uniquely vibrant colors.
