The gaming company DICE has revealed plans for a community testing phase of their upcoming Battlefield title, which is currently under “pre-alpha” development. Known as Battlefield Labs, gamers will participate in testing the next installment of the long-standing first-person shooter series. This collaborative effort aims to help DICE steer clear of the pitfalls that led to the disappointing launch of games such as 2042.
In a recent announcement by EA, Battlefield Labs is set to play a significant role in the future of the series, given that the previous game didn’t resonate well with fans. Instead of developers creating games based on their own ideas, they will now listen to player suggestions about how their games should be developed. Testing sessions are expected to begin within a few weeks, inviting players from Europe and North America to participate.
Battlefield Labs is an essential tool
According to a press statement by DICE, they consider the fresh Labs experience as a substantial enhancement to their series’ development process. Interested fans can now register for this new testing platform, allowing a select group of enthusiasts an early access to the game. These testers will then provide valuable feedback to DICE, helping them refine and enhance the quality of the First-Person Shooter (FPS) title.
According to EA’s announcement, Battlefield Labs significantly contributes to the development work that Battlefield Studios is carrying out for the game series. The insights gathered from Battlefield Labs testing sessions will shape the creation of future Battlefield games, not just the upcoming one.
According to EA, the rollout of the Labs service is particularly crucial during this developmental stage where collaboration with the community is more essential than ever. Since the game is still in pre-alpha, fans have an opportunity to steer the team’s efforts correctly before any mechanics are set that might be challenging to adjust later on.
Vince Zampella, EA’s Head of Respawn, has been playing Battlefield for a while before joining the team. He believes this game holds tremendous promise. Since we are still in pre-alpha stage, it’s an ideal moment to try out the experiences our teams have been developing for the upcoming launch. Battlefield Labs gives our teams the power to do just that.
The consumer edition of the upcoming Battlefield game doesn’t have a set release date yet. But, it will be developed by DICE, Ripple Effect, EA Motive, and Criterion collectively. It’s evident that the success of this particular game carries significant weight—a daring business decision, to say the least. As for me, I can only speculate.
