Last Christmas, Mohanlal’s first directorial effort, “Barroz,” premiered in cinemas. As a seasoned actor, Mohanlal had high hopes for this film, but was let down by its reception as it fell short of expectations. Fortunately, the movie is scheduled to release digitally soon.
When and where to watch Barroz
Mohanlal’s fantasy movie, titled “Barroz,” will be available for streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar. The platform announced this through their social media accounts with the message, “The enchantment of Barroz: The Guardian of Treasures is arriving soon to Disney+ Hotstar!” Based on reports, the film is projected to premiere digitally towards the end of January 2025.
Official trailer and plot of Barroz
The movie titled “Barroz,” featuring Mohanlal, narrates the tale of a devoted lieutenant who serves under Portugal’s Da Gama dynasty. In the year 1663, Barroz receives an important task from the king: to safeguard a valuable treasure and only pass it on to a direct descendant of Da Gama.
Over four centuries, Barroz faithfully upheld his responsibility, protecting the treasure. He transformed into a spiritual guardian, biding time for the suitable individual to claim it. That individual turns out to be Isabella, a young girl rumored to be a relative of Da Gama. Now, it falls upon her to take possession of the treasure to honor Barroz’s vow to the king, thereby enabling the spirit to depart and return to his own realm.
The movie revolves around Isabella’s path towards accepting the treasure, Barroz’s quest to reclaim his kingdom, and the exciting events that transpire during their journey.
Cast and crew of Barroz
In the movie “Barroz,” an exceptional group of actors takes the stage, with Mohanlal starring as Barroz in the lead role. Maya Rao West is cast as Isa Ron/Isabella da Gama, while June Vig portrays young Isabella da Gama. Lastly, Nerea Camacho makes a brief appearance as grown-up Isa Ron.
Distinguished performers joining the cast are Tuhin Menon taking on the role of Ron Madhav, Joshua Okesalako stepping into the part of the occultist Muwesi Maria, and Kallirroi Tziafeta bringing Theresa da Gama to life on screen.
The script for the movie was penned by Kalavoor Ravikumar. Simultaneously, the storyline draws inspiration from “Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure,” a novel written by Jijo Punnoose.
