As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the virtual worlds of movies and video games alike, I must confess that the news about Barbie 2 has left me both intrigued and somewhat puzzled.
Barbie 2 is in the works, according to a new report from THR.
What do we know about Barbie 2?
As per THR’s report, Barbie 2 is currently being conceptualized in its initial phases. The creative duo, Greta Gerwig (who was involved in writing and directing the first film) and Noah Baumbach, are said to have conceived a fresh idea for a new movie. This idea has reportedly been presented to Warner Bros. already.
Contrary to some rumors, neither the representatives for Warner Bros. nor Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach have announced plans for a sequel. According to their reps, the reports about a sequel are baseless and inaccurate.
According to THR’s report, if a deal goes through, they will collaborate on their project after both have finished their respective upcoming films. Noah Baumbach is currently working on the Netflix film “Jay Kelly,” where Greta Gerwig also stars, alongside a stellar cast, while Gerwig herself is busy with another Netflix project, her planned adaptation of “The Chronicles of Narnia.
2023’s Barbie movie was a blockbuster hit for Warner Bros. Discovery. Margot Robbie portrayed Barbie in the lead role, while Ryan Gosling stepped into the shoes of Ken. The film broke records by becoming both the top-grossing film of 2023 and the 14th-highest-grossing movie ever made, raking in over $1.4 billion at worldwide box offices.
The movie traced Barbie’s tale, where she ventured into the real world and embarked on a personal exploration after this transition. Alongside Barbie, notable actors like America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Hari Nef, Sharon Rooney, Dua Lipa, and others graced the screen.
The movie received a total of eight nominations at the Academy Awards, among them Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor (Gosling). It also took home the award for Best Original Song with “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish.
