Bandai Namco's cancelled Blue Protocol returns

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent in various MMORPGs, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and skepticism about the new game, Star Resonance, which seems to be a reincarnation of Blue Protocol. After the unfortunate cancellation of Blue Protocol by Bandai Namco, it felt like the end of an era for many of us who had been eagerly waiting for its release.

With a fresh name, “Star Resonance,” the game previously known as “Blue Protocol” has been revived in China, now under the care of Tencent’s Shanghai Bokura division.

New game Star Resonance looks like renewed Blue Protocol

Since 2015, Blue Protocol has been under development. This August, Bandai Namco officially announced its cancellation.

Initially, it made its debut in Japan, however, it turned out to be a major disappointment for the studio. Whether or not this was related to Amazon Games’ role in the project is uncertain. Consequently, it never got a western release.

Initially, it appeared that the beloved MMORPG would cease to exist come January 2025. However, much to the delight of its fans, an unexpected announcement was made recently.

Shanghai Bokura Technology, a subsidiary of the large corporation Tencent, recently unveiled their upcoming game titled “Star Resonance”. It bears a strong resemblance to “Blue Protocol”.

The upcoming game titled “Star Resonance” will be playable on not just personal computers but also Android and iOS devices. It offers the chance to create unique characters, engage in cooperative multiplayer modes, and much more.

According to a statement published by Shanghai Bokura, they announced that they obtained the rights for the Blue Protocol project.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that our team is now collaborating hand-in-hand with the original creators of Blue Protocol. It’s going to be an exciting journey!

It appears that the revamp of Blue Protocol is moving forward quite well, albeit possibly under a different title.

The Star Resonance game has started accepting pre-registrations in China and is preparing for another round of beta testing. In celebration, they have unveiled the very first trailer for the game.

Unfortunately, no updates about a western release have surfaced as of now. However, test players have found an option to change the language setting to English, which suggests that there might be some progress in sight!
