Bandai Namco cancels new One Piece and Naruto games

As a dedicated gamer with years of experience under my belt, I find myself disheartened and frustrated by the recent turn of events at Bandai Namco. The cancellation of games based on beloved franchises like One Piece, Naruto, and even potential collaborations with Nintendo is a blow to the gaming community.

In recent times, the game “Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero” has been a triumph for Bandai Namco, yet the company has stirred controversy due to controversial staff reductions and the termination of numerous projects.

It’s quite unexpected that the last anime-related project by this company reportedly sold over three million copies on its first day of release. Now, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, the latest addition to Bandai Namco’s Budokai Tenkaichi series (which was last seen 15 years ago), is experiencing unprecedented success with its launch.

Bandai Namco, as reported by Bloomberg, employs a method called “oidashi beya“, which is essentially a form of involuntary leave. This Japanese practice allows the company to circumvent strict labor laws by assigning minimal work to employees until they choose to resign. The company is said to have already pushed over 100 workers out using this method, with another 200 or so currently in similar situations.

Bandai Namco neither confirmed nor denied rumors about game cancellations, but did address reports of a firing-practice. They clarified that while they don’t use expulsion rooms, some employees might have to temporarily step back from their current projects for a specific period before being assigned to new ones.

How do you feel about the steps the company has made? Are you looking forward to the games? Share your thoughts below!
