John Wick Spin-off Ballerina’s first reactions call Ana de Armas ‘a true action star’

Initial feedback for Ballerina, the upcoming John Wick spin-off featuring Ana de Armas, has been unveiled after its world debut. Critics and viewers who got a sneak peek at early screenings have voiced their opinions on various platforms (previously known as Twitter). Many complimented the film’s action scenes and Ana de Armas’ portrayal of Eve Macarro.

Jonathan Sim penned that “BALLERINA: FROM THE WORLD OF JOHN WICK is exactly what you’d hope for… Spectacular fight sequences, meticulously designed and executed. Ana de Armas shines as an action hero destined for the history books.” He outlined the storyline as “a straightforward revenge tale, featuring amazing stunts and inventive weaponry, ranging from flamethrowers to grenades to ice skates.

In simpler terms, Germain Lussier said the film was “excessively amusing” and featured “exciting, wild action,” but he found the plot to be “unbearably dull.” He also mentioned that Ana de Armas showed great potential as an action star, but felt that John Wick’s presence in the movie weakened the storyline.

Christopher (@LuminousDagger) expressed that Ballerina is a fantastic new addition to the John Wick universe, noting its thrilling, intense, and graphic action scenes. He commended director Len Wiseman for his innovative perspective and praised De Armas as an ideal choice for Eve, delivering her best action performance to date.

Adriano Caporusso noted that although some additional filming was noticeable, the movie maintains its place alongside the other John Wick films with a sense of assurance, thanks to a well-known and engaging plotline.

Chris Killian emphasized the sheer scale of the violence, calling it “a bloody bada– good time.”

In the storyline of Ballerina, which is set concurrently with John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, we follow Eve Macarro’s journey as she starts her training as an assassin under the Ruska Roma. The ensemble includes Ana de Armas, Norman Reedus, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, the late Lance Reddick, and Keanu Reeves, who once again embodies the character of John Wick.

The film is scheduled to release on June 6, 2025.
