As a gamer with roots deeply embedded in the Latin American culture, I can’t help but feel a surge of pride seeing figures like Bad Bunny and Ricky Martin using their influence to support Kamala Harris. Growing up, music was more than just entertainment for me; it was a connection to my heritage, a voice for the voiceless, and an expression of our shared experiences.
Bad Bunny, often referred to as such, has expressed his support for Kamala Harris in the upcoming elections. This endorsement by the Puerto Rican rapper follows a contentious comment about his homeland, made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe during a Donald Trump rally in New York.
Bad Bunny endorses Kamala Harris by sharing her Puerto Rico campaign video
Last Sunday, October 27th, Bad Bunny posted clips from a video featuring Kamala Harris critiquing Donald Trump’s handling of the aftermath of hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico back in 2017. In particular, she highlighted his administration’s response to these catastrophic storms on the island.
In her initial statement, Harris emphasized that the outcome of this election significantly impacts Puerto Rican voters and Puerto Rico as a whole. She also pointed out that the election isn’t merely a selection between herself and Donald Trump, but rather a decision between contrasting views about our country’s future.
In the second video, Harris stated, “I will always remember the actions – and lack of action – of Donald Trump when Puerto Rico required a compassionate and effective leader. He left the island behind, attempted to prevent assistance following consecutive catastrophic hurricanes, and provided only flimsy paper towels and offensive remarks.
In the third segment, we get a closer look at the U.S. Vice President, who is repeating words from Harris that were also spoken in the second part. The fourth and concluding clip focuses even more closely on the Vice President, capturing only the opening phrase of her quote from the previous clips: “I will never forget what Donald Trump did.
Notably, Bad Bunny has over 45 million followers on Instagram.
Previously, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating landfill” during Donald Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden, and he also made derogatory remarks about Latinos. In contrast, Bad Bunny and fellow Puerto Rican music sensation Ricky Martin, known for hits like “Livin’ la Vida Loca,” expressed support for Kamala Harris on Instagram over the weekend, reaching out to more than 18 million followers on the platform.
Hinchcliffe’s comment drew criticism from the Harris-Walz campaign, the Democrats, and the GOP. Danielle Alvarez, a Trump campaign senior advisor, stated, “This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.”
