Bad Boys: Ride or Die

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F
In recent times, it’s not just any old “Bad Boys” series that has welcomed a fresh sequel; instead, after a gap of three decades, the hilarious Eddie Murphy has reprised his iconic character, the witty Detroit cop Axel Foley, who is once again on his way to Beverly Hills.
As a gamer diving back into the world of Beverly Hills Cop, I’m reunited with familiar faces like Judge Reinhold, John Ashton (in his final role), Paul Reiser, and others. It’s also heartwarming to see Axel bonding with his daughter. The action is non-stop, but what truly keeps me hooked is Murphy’s infectious laughter, witty humor, and the reminder that he’s still got the charm that made these movies timeless classics.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F was released on Netflix on July 3.
Rebel Ridge
Since its debut on Netflix on September 6, the film “Rebel Ridge” has been a huge hit on the streaming platform and warrants even wider viewership. To sum up, while “Rebel Ridge” may lean more towards a thriller genre compared to pure action, it manages to deliver quite effectively.
In the Netflix original movie, Aaron Pierre plays a character who is an ex-soldier traveling to a quiet town to help his relative. However, things take a turn when he clashes with a crooked sheriff (Don Johnson), leading him to engage in a lone struggle against the unscrupulous law enforcement officers.
In this understated action movie, the battle sequences are expertly executed, with Pierre proving himself a strong contender for the role of the next leading action star. Remarkably, it outshines many of the high-profile Netflix originals that have larger budgets.
The Equalizer 3
In the third and final installment of his exceptional action movie series, Denzel Washington stars in “The Equalizer 3”.
The movie initiates with Robert McCall sustaining severe injuries during an assignment in Italy. Gratefully rescued by the locals, McCall contemplates settling down peacefully in a quaint village. However, when a local gang begins bullying his new acquaintances, McCall, without hesitation, takes action to protect them.
Washington remains as compelling as ever as McCall, still utilizing his fantastic fighting skills and some nice turns. If this is the last Equalizer film, then it goes out on a high note with Washington making it one of the best roles of his storied career.
Escape Plan
Back in 2013, the long-awaited wish of action movie enthusiasts was finally granted when Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared together on screen for the first time in the film titled “Escape Plan“.
In the movie, Sylvester Stallone portrays a skilled prison tester who gets himself imprisoned to test the security, only to break out later. However, during his most recent test, he finds himself in a predicament as he unwittingly enters the most formidable prison ever constructed. With no other options left, Stallone’s character enlists Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character, another inmate, to help him orchestrate an escape.
Watching their interaction is thrilling, and the film offers some fascinating surprises. In fact, just the thought of two legendary action stars sharing the screen is enough to make this movie a must-see for any action genre enthusiast.
Salt
Angelina Jolie gets a stellar showcase in the 2010 thriller, Salt.
In the thrilling film, Angelina Jolie portrays Evelyn Salt, a skilled CIA operative falsely charged with espionage for Russia. With her back against the wall, she goes into hiding, attempting to prove her innocence. However, as events unfold, there are surprising turns that complicate the situation.
The film maintains an element of mystery about Salt’s loyalty, with Angelina Jolie delivering exhilarating action scenes with great style. It’s an enjoyable journey leading up to its unexpected climax, and Jolie is captivating as the main character.
Troy
20 years after its initial release, Wolfgang Petersen’s film adaptation of the mythological conflict, Troy, still stands out as a captivating spectacle. The impressive cast, including Brad Pitt portraying Achilles, Eric Bana as Hector, Orlando Bloom, Brian Cox, Peter O’Toole, and Diane Kruger as Helen, contributes significantly to its appeal.
The battle scenes are spectacular thanks to some big CGI pieces bringing them to life. The high point is the brilliantly filmed duel between Pitt and Bana which works perfectly. For fans of classic epic Hollywood action, this is a must-watch.
21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street
As a gaming enthusiast, I’d highly recommend diving into the hilarious world of “21 Jump Street” and its sequel, “22 Jump Street”. In these movies, you’ll find yourself laughing alongside Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, an unlikely duo who just happen to be cops. They stumble their way through assignments, eventually landing in a unit that sends them undercover – you guessed it – back in high school! It’s a rollercoaster ride of action, comedy, and unexpected friendships you won’t want to miss.
Initially, the characters are reversed in stereotypes: Hill is portrayed as the brainy science geek, while Tatum takes on the jock role. Despite this unexpected setup, their on-screen relationship, from humor to action sequences, exhibits a strong bond. Moreover, they display a touch of emotion as they attempt to make amends for past high school indiscretions.
In the follow-up, the duo’s college adventure unfolds with equal amounts of excitement as they tackle a case. There are unexpected guest appearances and clever jabs at typical tropes found in action movie sequels, making this series a delightful watch for enthusiasts of the genre.
