In 2024, the movie “Baby John,” starring Varun Dhawan, was released in cinemas. This film, led by director Kalees, is a remake of the 2016 release “Theri,” which was directed by Atlee.
The movie narrates the tale of John D’Silva, a proprietor of a bakery residing in Kerala along with his daughter, his closest companion Jackie, and dog named Tiger. In their tranquil existence, John and Khushi develop a bond with Tara, who is Khushi’s teacher.
Due to an altercation with a group of thugs at a church, Tara and Khushi visit the police station, causing annoyance to John. At the station, a police officer queries whether they had previously encountered this man in Dehradun, but John, fluently speaking Malayalam, clarifies that he has resided in Kerala for multiple generations instead.
Meanwhile, as Tara and Khushi attempted to submit a police report against the local gang, they were confronted by thugs intent on kidnapping and hurting the child. At first, John tried to reason with them, but when things escalated, he retaliated against each one of them. It was then that Tara discovered John D’Silva was none other than DCP Satya Verma IPS, who had been thought to be dead.
In the heart of the story, I found myself delving deep into Satya Verma’s former life as a policeman and uncovering the events that transformed him into John, my long-time adversary, Babbar Sher, or Nanaji, resurfaced for his vengeance. Simultaneously, an intriguing twist unfolds as Tara, who I had believed to be a simple school teacher, is actually Adhira Verman, a secret agent!
To sum up, the climactic scene for Baby John unfolds at a dockside where Satya bravely executes daring feats to save enslaved women and ultimately slays Babbar Sher. Additionally, Salman Khan’s character, Agent Bhaijaan, makes an appearance, aiding Satya and Adhira on their fresh mission.
Instead of involving the central theme of women trafficking, Theri’s plot focused on revenge, much like Thalapathy Vijay‘s character in Vijay Kumar IPS. However, unlike Theri, the main antagonist was defeated subtly and the story concluded with a more complex resolution.
Furthermore, unlike the original movie, the film lacked a character similar to Adhira, portrayed by Amy Jackson, who was an undercover officer. Notably, the closing scenes of the initial production featured Thalapathy Vijay’s real-life daughter, Divya Saasha Vijay, making a special appearance.
