As a movie enthusiast who has been following the latest developments in the film industry for years, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with fellow cinephiles! The much-anticipated release of “Azrael” is now officially set for September 27, 2024. This date circles on my calendar like a beacon of cinematic brilliance, promising an immersive experience that only the big screen can deliver.

What is Azrael about?
In a silent world, a hidden, pious group relentlessly pursues a young woman named Azrael (Weaving) who has managed to break free from their confines. Captured once more by their merciless rulers, Azrael is marked for sacrifice to appease an evil lurking in the nearby wilderness. Determined to secure her liberty and live on, Azrael will go to great lengths.
At the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival, the movie had its first screening. Subsequently, it will debut in Canada for the first time at the 2024 Fantasia International Film Festival.
Vic Carmen Sonne (Holiday), Katariina Unt (Deliver Us), Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Candedy), Rea Lest (November), and Johan Rosenberg have been added to the roster of actors working with Weaving on the project.
Dan Kagan is the sole creator of Azrael, but it’s also made with the collaboration of Dave Caplan and Simon Barrett. Notably, these last two have recently gained recognition for their work on Osgood Perkins’ film “Longlegs.”
Samara Weaving has been gaining recognition in the genre film world with impressive performances. She shone in Joe Lynch’s Mayhem, McG’s The Babysitter, and Radio Silence’s Ready or Not. Beyond these roles, she appeared in Babylon, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Bill & Ted Face the Music, and Scream 6.
Film director E.L. Katz is recognized for making “Cheap Thrills,” released in 2013, and for guiding episodes of “The Haunting of Bly Manor” series. Additionally, he led the production of “Small Crimes” in 2017 and a piece in the anthology horror project named “The ABCs of Death.” An upcoming film based on Nick Cutter’s disturbing novel “The Troop” is planned for his future projects.
